A Moody Makeover — Turning a Builder-Grade Dining Room Into a Stylish, Multi-Use Space

By Priscila Barros, Editor-in-Chief Leave a Comment

In homes where style meets functionality, the dining room often plays multiple roles—hosting family meals, school lessons, and creative moments all in one. This transformation takes a once basic, builder-grade space and turns it into a dark, moody, and beautifully curated room that balances sophistication with everyday practicality.

The Lighting
The sculptural pendant from West Elm adds warmth and elegance. With its clean lines and ambient glow, it creates a grounding focal point while elevating the overall design.

The Wallpaper
The statement-making “Painted Peonies” mural from Love vs Design brings in depth, drama, and an artistic touch. One of our favorite features? You can fully customize the design and colors to match your space—ideal for those who want a tailored look without compromise.

The Rug
From Tumble, this machine-washable rug is both beautiful and durable. With a spill-proof surface and soft texture, it’s perfect for families juggling mealtime, crafts, and pets. Not sure which rug or size you need? Tumble offers complimentary design consultations to make the process seamless.

The Framing
A thoughtfully chosen piece of art deserves the perfect frame—and that’s where Frame It comes in. Their custom framing options make it easy to create a gallery-worthy piece that fits your personal style and completes the look.

This refreshed dining space proves that even a standard room can be transformed into something meaningful, multi-functional, and stunning—designed with both beauty and real-life use in mind.

A New Room For Cruzie featuring Love vs Design

By Priscila Barros, Editor-in-Chief Leave a Comment

The before

We recently made the move to Texas – trading in our gorgeous farmhouse on 13 acres for a pretty boring builder grade home. I am determined to change the home to reflect more my style.

The kids’ rooms seem to be where I usually start when decorating (because they are the most fun), so it’s no secret I started in my youngest son’s room. He is pretty attached to his mama  so I wanted to create a fun and safe space for him to feel like he could express who he is and what he currently likes.

We worked with Love vs Design to pick out the perfect peel and stick wallpaper (that is totally customizable). After going back and forth on what he wanted he settled on the “celestial constellations wallpaper.”

Installation was super easy and Love vs Design were very helpful with all my questions. We just installed the wallpaper on one wall and it only took us a few hours.

There are a few other things I would like to do in the room including adding hardwood floors, a more modern fan, curtains and a shelf unit for all the crazy things this boy likes to collect and display.

If you are interested in some peel in stick wallpaper- check out Love vs Design. They have so many designs to pick from that are customizable and it’s such an easy project that makes such a high impact on any space!

Next Room I am working on is my dinning room. Can’t wait to show you the completed space!

Toys for the Road

Whenever we publish a sponsored post, we’ll let you know with the hashtag #ad — like this. These past few months have been a different experience to us all but if there is a positive that has seemed shared among most it is that simplicity is appreciated. Moments of calm with loved ones and unplugging from technology to take in the beauty of the world around us has been a comfort.

The sudden halt of what felt like the world slowly spinning and days no longer flying by has allowed our family to take a breath and enjoy playing games indoors together. It was during this time of us using our imaginations when we grew a love for Candylab Toys uniquely beautiful products.

Our son has always been fond of planes, trains, and automobiles. The fascination of how they work, where they can take you, and their different models + sizes seems to add a certain sparkle to his eyes as he contemplates these thoughts. Candylab takes a different approach than other brands when creating their products to add whimsical details and bright colors that only fuel a child’s imagination in the most beautiful way. Practically any car model that one could hope for they have created using natural materials with a midcentury aesthetic. The sizes vary but are easy to play with and as a parent who does enjoy a well styled space they go along with any home style perfectly. As if the race cars , drifters ( toy trucks ) , food trucks, really the selections seem endless of vehicles to choose from was not in itself wonderful they also have created stackable buildings. A day at the beach can be dreamt up with their Malibu Beach Tower and their Woodie Redux which has a magnetic top for a Waimea Surfboard to sit on top. From the coastline to the desert with Motels, a Toll Booth , and Drive In for stops along the way Candylab has created a little wooden world for littles to enjoy.

Minimal Nursery Corner in a Master Bedroom

By Gina Munsey, Senior Editor Leave a Comment

PIN FOR Minimal Nursery Corner in Master Bedroom

[A disclosure of material connection, and a note about partnerships: this post is sponsored. Babiekins received a crib from Babyletto and a rug from Ruggable in exchange for writing and publishing this post. The cuddle bear from Fabelab, merino blanket from Pure Simple Chic, wool pillow from Moon Water Co, and crib linens from Peapod and Nate were provided to Babiekins as part of a separate promotion. The Jesus Heals book is courtesy the launch team coordinators at Harvest House.  Babiekins was not required to write a positive review; all opinions are our own.]

When you live in a small space, each room needs to serve more than one function. My daughter’s bedroom doubles as a homeschool room, and our dining room doubles as a home office. And now the master doubles as a nursery, too.

#Thenewestbabiekins surprised us all by arriving early — welcome, Lochlan Ambrose! — so we didn’t even have a nursery space ready for him yet. Yikes! And after his NICU stay, he moved home to a small bassinet. But this month, things finally stabilized enough around here to create a little haven for him in the corner of the master bedroom.

Minimal Nursery Corner in Master Bedrrom

Minimal Nursery Corner in Master Bedrrom

Since the master bed linen is already white, setting the light and airy palette was easy. I started by layering a large Whitecaps Indigo Rug from Ruggable (it’s washable!) over the existing wall-to-wall carpeting, then paired it with a modern whale-print crib sheet from Peapod and Nate. The whole space is anchored by Babyletto’s 4-in-1 Gelato Convertible Crib in White/Washed Natural. (Bonus: it will convert to a toddler bed later!)

I love how the earthen textures of the Oaxaca-made pillows from Moon Water Co (moved to the master bed when baby is using the crib) counteract the breezy lightness of the other nautical textiles. And of course, no room in my house is complete without books! Favorites from author S.D. Smith and Catechesis Books are close by on my Tolix-inspired nightstand. (The lamp is from Memoky a few years back. Here’s a similar one.) The guitar is in our personal collection, and the Dylan poster is merch from a concert we attended several years ago. The woven rainbow, a promise of hope, was a gift from my friend Spot of Sunshine — she found it on Etsy!

This space is calming, and it has quickly become a favorite spot in our home. It’s clean, bright, and minimal, and the soft golden tones really warm up what might otherwise by a stark look. And best of all — Lochlan is happy here!

Indoor Oasis

By Gaylin Howbert, Contributor Leave a Comment

Whenever we publish a sponsored post, we’ll let you know with the hashtag #ad — like this. This simply means we were either compensated for our time in exchange for the post, or we were given complimentary or discounted products, but we were not required to write a positive review. As always, all opinions are the author’s own.

Home. Such a short word but it brings so much comfort when said. After a long day at school or playing with friends home is the place our littles can go to relax and recharge.

Kids have wonderful imaginations so why not create a space for your little that is fun ! When brainstorming ideas for your child’s room make a list of a few of their favorite things such as : do they love being at the beach or up in the mountains, their favorite sport(s) , favorite color(s), etc. This helps to incorporate what they love to give them a room that they will enjoy + allows them to help out in this fun project by making a list to base the room off of .

Accent walls. An accent wall in a room can really help to change an entire room with a pop of color, pattern, or image filling an entire wall space. Though as children grow their favorite color that was blue may change to neon orange or instead of being all about Disney characters maybe now they are a #1 Superman fan… With this in mind before you go and commit to a painting of a fantastic sports themed mural or paint an accent wall their favorite current color(s) why not give some removable wallpaper a go ? Removable wallpaper has been trending for the past few years now and it is easy to see why since a number of companies who sell it make the prints fun, provide a variety of colors/patterns/images that go with any room theme.  The wallpaper comes off of the wall easily which makes it renter friendly + parent friendly in case your kiddo wants to switch up the room theme a year or two down the road.

Decorating. Though many stores we go to on a weekly basis are filled with amazing home decor you can sometimes find some hidden gems at your local thrift store. Thrifting can hold a number of surprises and can also provide pieces that not only save you money but are unique to spruce up your little’s space. You can make a day out of it and take your child with you since it is exciting for them to be able to help find wonderful items for their new room and grab some ice cream after making some lovely memories together. However, if you would like to add some new pieces or mix with some old treasures with some new there are a number of fantastic brands all around the world that were created to make your home magical. A few favorites that are featured in this room are : Kawaiian Lion – This beautiful brand based out of Australia brings an Aloha vibe with its stunning products. It is a mix of vintage beach decor that not only is great for decorating your littles space if they are all about the beach but to also decorate other rooms in your home to bring in all the soothing ocean feels. The color schemes of the items pair well with any color pallet. SuspendIt – Say goodbye to ordinary hooks + screw/nail heads for when you hang up artwork, hats, necklaces, you name it ! SuspendIt saves the day with the most stunning covers to hide that not so attractive nail or to give something out of the ordinary to hang your child’s book bag on. With a number of beautiful covers to choose from the covers are not only made to last but are easy to apply over any nail or screw with a magnetic backing that also clips to secure it into place. Rugs USA – It is amazing how much a good rug can change up a space! Rugs USA is one of the larger rug sellers and carry any type of rug pattern/color/texture you could desire. The Rugs are lightweight, easy to clean, and are perfect for driving hot wheel cars on or for hosting a stuffed animal tea party. The rug chosen for the images below is Rug USA’s Multi Faded Grace Tassel Botaniq Area Rug which goes well with any color scheme but also gives a bit of a vintage look that adds to how gorgeous it is.

Onto the bedding. A tip if you have a lot of patterns or would like to highlight a patterned accent wall choosing bedding that is a solid color is good way to go. Though the bedding may be one color it can be spruced up with some colorful pillows that fit the theme of the room. To add a layered look that is inviting for bedtime pair the bedding with some sheets that are patterned, have dinosaurs on them ( or any fun theme your child loves ) ,or just a different color than the bedding which  helps to make the sheets stand out. A very important part of the room which can get overlooked until after the decor shopping is complete is the mattress. Regarding the project below for our son’s room we wanted to make sure he had a mattress that was comfortable but also made out of safe materials. So we said Hello to My Green Mattress ! My Green Mattress creates mattresses that are made out of organic materials ( natural wool, cotton, and latex ) and the latex in the mattress forms to the body which offers orthopedic support. We chose the Pure Echo Mattress which arrived in a cardboard box ( after unpacking it made for the perfect cardboard house to play in ) and was neatly wrapped. Our son and our two cats had a blast unwrapping the mattress and then watching it shape into it’s mattress form once unwrapped. Due to living in a hot/humid tropical climate in Hawaii our little dude would wake up each night when it was especially warm out with heat rashes, however, since sleeping on the Pure Echo mattress he has not had one single rash.  He also has started sleeping in past 8AM over this summer once we switched to this mattress which is something he hasn’t done since he was one years old ( making this lady a very happy mom since that has allowed me to sleep in as well ). Overall I can vouch that hands down our mattress from My Green Mattress has been the best mattress we have ever owned.

Plants. Not only are plants proven to be soothing in a home but they also help to filter the air. Thanks to apps like Pinterest there is a vast knowledge now days of which plants are best for the indoors. Having  a plant or two in your child’s room will not only help to brighten the space up but it can help teach them responsibility on caring for that plant. A fun arts and crafts project our son and myself did for his room was to pick out a few plants, some paint/paint brushes, we turned on some snazzy tunes, and we spent an afternoon painting some beautiful/creative pots for the plants in his room.

Toy Storage. Toys toys toys, as I remember in my childhood I thought one could never have too many toys. As a parent at times I feel like they hide in every corner of the house so when styling our son’s room I vowed to never step on a lego or hot wheel every again and provide plenty of storage for our son’s toys. There are many options when it comes to storage : plastic organizational bins, wire baskets, wooden crates, lockers, nets that hang in a corner of a room, the list goes on ! Regarding the room below I chose to go with several large woven palm baskets that can slide under our son’s white table along with a few wicker storage bins from Target. Not only are these storage choices pleasing to the eye but they have done a magnificent job of keeping the hot wheel collection all in one place and out from under my tender feet.

At the end of the project you not only will have created a magical space for your child to go to but have hopefully also created some wonderful memories together along the way. An indoor oasis for the whole family to enjoy tea parties in, little friends to make childhood memories in for playdates + sleepovers, and a place your child will think back on when they are grown and appreciate all the fun they had in their room that they helped create.

More Than a Play Mat. A Q+A with TOKI MATS

By Rachel Fox Kipphut, Contributor Leave a Comment

We chatted with Toki Mats Creator + Founder , Eli Yonas.
She’s the San Francisco based boss lady of @tokimats -a non-toxic padded play mats in gorgeous modern designs that make playtime easy! Eli gives the inside scoop on Toki Mats, motherhood, and more.

{Q} On your website it says ” Our mission was to find the safest materials without compromising on comfort. The foam we use is revolutionary – made from the sap tree, it is completely breathable, has just the right firmness, and is soft enough to make you want to cuddle up with your kids.” How and what was the process like for you to find the safest materials for Toki Mats? – for example material made from a sap tree?

{Eli}This was definitely the toughest – but most important – part of launching Toki. I spent a full YEAR researching manufacturers to find the absolute best materials available. I wouldn’t sell the play mat unless it met all the top needs for a mom: safe, easy to use, comfortable (and of course, stylish!) Ultimately, I found a unique foam that was made from natural latex (tree sap), that is just heaven!
{Q} Apart from Toki Mats, you work full time? (What is your Day-Job?)
Do you want to ever take Toki Mats full time? Also, what is one thing you wish someone would have told you about starting a business?
{Eli} Yes! I have two jobs- I work as a program manager at Facebook full time, and run Toki Mats during off hours (i.e., when I’m supposed to be sleeping). I do want to take Toki full time eventually, but we have a lot of growth to achieve for me to be in that position. I don’t have one thing I wish I would’ve known before starting Toki Mats, but I do wish fellow entrepreneurs, especially women, were more transparent with how they run their businesses behind the scenes. I eventually figured everything out, but it would’ve saved me some late nights 🙂
I’ve learned a ton in my “day jobs” that have set me up for success with Toki- hands down! From marketing, to finance, to sales- every step in my career has enabled me to build this business from scratch. I have BIG goals for both Toki, and my professional career, very excited!

{Q} What is your ultimate dream for your business and is there anything else in the works for Toki Mats (new products?)

{Eli} My ultimate dream is for Toki Mats to be both profitable and growing, to enable me to focus on the fun parts of the business: community, creativity, and strategy. I do have ideas for more products (not sharing just yet!), but they won’t be launched until later this year.

{Q} Between work, kids, business and life – how do you stay true to who you are. What do you do for “me” time…. and how do you juggle it all?
{Eli} Making sure that all of these aspects are a reflection of who I am from the start, means that when I focus on each one, they are a part of me, and not a distraction. I squeeze in “me” time whenever I am in between jobs/kids: carpool, commuting, even bathroom breaks lol. My husband and I split the family / house responsibilities which is a huge help as well. I do sacrifice sleep though, and I need to better at considering sleep “me” time too!
{Q} Why do you think it’s so important to support the small business community? {Q} What is one of your biggest frustrations as a business owner?
{Eli} I absolutely LOVE the small business community. There are some fantastic entrepreneurs, moms especially, that band together and lift each other up. I’m so grateful for the connections I’ve made, and inspired by the talented women business owners! Most of the products created by small businesses are unique, special, and fit a market need. The frustrating part is being heard over the noise of big businesses. Marketing is definitely tough- I want every parent that needs a Toki play mat to be able to discover us, but we have work to do!

{Q} Biggest reward?

{Eli} The customer reviews *insert crying emoji*! Nothing fills my cup as much as a parent who’s life we made easier and more playful.
{Q} What does a typical working day look like for you?
{Eli} Wake up to the morning rush of getting our kids to school, carpooling with my husband (shoutout to my equal partner!), commuting, focused on my day job until evening, commuting again, evening rush of getting our kids fed/bathed/sleep (jk they don’t sleep), then back to the computer!
{Q} What is one thing you couldn’t live with out?
{Eli} Is it nerdy to say my night guard? Just trying to keep it real 🙂

Babiekins Storage Ideas to Organize Kids

I often wonder if it is possible to have a clean house and kids? My babiekins toys are usually scattered on our living room floor – actually on the floors of every room in our home. My new years goal was to organize my babiekins stuff into storage bins so that he can keep tidy after play. I love these storage ideas to keep kids organized because they are fun designs that look more like decor and add a cool design pop to any room in your home.

Black cabinets and black appliances aren’t what the typical person would pick for their kitchen (especially with the all white movement) but I wanted to do something really bold in the room we spend the most time in. I envision dinner parties and events, so I wanted to make the kitchen big enough that we could easily fit a handful of adults in it.  We even put in two farmhouse sinks (that way no one can make an excuse with helping me with the dishes 😆).

I went with two modern black matte faucet by Vigo. I love how sleek and modern they look and how functional they are. They are lovely to work with and were so helpful with all my questions!I have picked out a few of my favorite faucets above from Vigo so you can find one that fits your needs!
