Have you ever heard of cascarones? They’re a fun Easter tradition of cracking confetti filled eggshells over others’ heads…my littles get such a kick out of the colorful mess!
This is a simple project, although a bit time consuming waiting for things to dry {so don’t start the night before Easter!} To make cascarones, you’ll need:
empty eggshells
food color and vinegar or egg dye tablets
confetti, glitter, birdseed or other fillers
patterned tape
Start by hollowing out your eggs. I’ve found this is easiest by poking a hole in the top of the egg with a pin and then making a larger hole on the bottom for the whites and yolk to drip from. Rinse the empty shells and reserve the insides for omelets or a batch of cupcakes!
After the shells are clean, dye them as you would hard boiled Easter eggs. I like egg dye tablets for their vibrancy, but food color and vinegar works well. Just be sure to submerge the entire shell by letting the dye/water mixture fill the shells.
Let the shells dry completely. I usually leave them overnight, just to be safe.
Fill the shells with confetti or glitter about 3/4 full.
Using a funnel or scrap of paper rolled into a cone makes this much easier.
After the shells are full, cover the hole with washi or patterned tape.
Then have fun showering each other in confetti!
