Craftykins // Confetti Filled Easter Eggs

Have you ever heard of cascarones?  They’re a fun Easter tradition of cracking confetti filled eggshells over others’ heads…my littles get such a kick out of the colorful mess!

Babiekins Magazine|Craftykins // DIY Confetti Filled Easter Eggs

This is a simple project, although a bit time consuming waiting for things to dry {so don’t start the night before Easter!}  To make cascarones, you’ll need:

empty eggshells

food color and vinegar or egg dye tablets

confetti, glitter, birdseed or other fillers

patterned tape

Start by hollowing out your eggs.  I’ve found this is easiest by poking a hole in the top of the egg with a pin and then making a larger hole on the bottom for the whites and yolk to drip from.  Rinse the empty shells and reserve the insides for omelets or a batch of cupcakes!

After the shells are clean, dye them as you would hard boiled Easter eggs.  I like egg dye tablets for their vibrancy, but food color and vinegar works well.  Just be sure to submerge the entire shell by letting the dye/water mixture fill the shells.

Let the shells dry completely.  I usually leave them overnight, just to be safe.

Fill the shells with confetti or glitter about 3/4 full.

Using a funnel or scrap of paper rolled into a cone makes this much easier.

After the shells are full, cover the hole with washi or patterned tape.

Then have fun showering each other in confetti!

Partykins // Holiday Photo Booth

By Elizabeth Pettey, Digital Photo Editor Leave a Comment

Ain’t no party like a Christmas party!

Let’s cut to the chase: everyone loves a good Photo Booth… especially when you’ve wrangled your kids out of their typical getup of yogurt-stained sweats and scrubbed/pressed/dressed them to the 9’s for a Holiday party!

Home improvement material hoarders rejoice; your time has come! What you’ll need:

– extra-large roll of paper (aka: masking paper or painter’s paper from your local hardware store – a roll is about the price of that Gingerbread latte you ordered this morning) or a pressed Queen-sized bed sheet.

– clear tape

– props /confetti (sorry, in advance, for the chaos ignited by these bits of sparkle)

– sugar-hyped kids

Directions:

Roll it out, tape it up, slap on some stars if you’re feeling extra crafty. (really! that’s it!)

In the age of television-sized smart phones you won’t even need a camera or photographer stationed by the booth. Instead, give yourself the opportunity to snack on the finger foods (you painstakingly cut into Christmas shapes) and allow parents to snap away at their leisure.

“Okay. Great. But how do I enjoy all of photos at the end of the event!?”, you ask. Simply ask your child to help you concoct a specific hashtag that guests can use when sharing on social media. You’ll be able to enjoy photos and reflect on how brave you were to give 8 year old boys confetti all year long! PS: Don’t forget to tag Babiekins- we don’t like missing out on the fun!

Fashionkins // Confetti Inspiration

By Leslie Schor, Senior Fashion Editor Leave a Comment

While this is not a costume per se, it could totally serve as inspiration for a cool homemade DIY costume. You can pick up felt, or any other fabric at the craft store. Cut your colorful fabric into circles and attach to a solid color dress, or even a leotard. Add some polka dot socks, and voila…Confetti Girl!

Partykins // DIY Balloon in a Balloon with Confetti

By Jenny Smith, Contributor 2 Comments

Carter’s 2nd birthday is just around the corner so I slowly started to work on some party prep for his special day.  I’ve always loved the balloon in a balloon, but have never tried to do it myself, until now.  Surprisingly, it was quite simple and I will show you how it was done below.

Supplies Needed// Tissue paper, ribbon, scissors, clear balloons, coloured balloons and a helium tank (not shown here).

Babiekins Magazine | DIY Partykins // Balloon in a Balloon with Confetti

Step 1 // First make your confetti by stacking your tissue paper one on top of another and cut out approximately 1 inch wide strips. Once you have your 1 inch wide strips, cut them into bits of confetti.

Step 2 // Stuff some confetti into one clear balloon. I didn’t use a funnel or anything, just jammed them in with my finger.

Step 3 // Now take coloured balloon and insert a small stick into it. I used a coffee stirring stick.  This will help you insert the coloured balloon into the clear balloon.

Step 4 // Bring out your helium tank. I get mine from Costco, but you can find it at most craft and party supplies stores.

Step 5 // Insert the nozzle into the coloured balloon and blow it up to about a 7 inch wide balloon then tie a knot on it.

Step 6 // Now insert the nozzle into the clear balloon and blow it up to your desired size.

Step 7 // Tie your knot and  a ribbon around it and you have yourself a balloon inside of a balloon with confetti!Babiekins Magazine | DIY Partykins // Balloon in a Balloon with Confetti

Craftykins // DIY Jumbo Geometric Confetti

By Jenny Smith, Contributor Leave a Comment

Confetti 3a

I’m always on the lookout for quick, fun and easy crafts to do with Carter. I came across this super easy DIY for geometric confetti and thought, “Hmm, this would make a big mess (yet easy enough to clean up). Carter’s going to love it!”

Here are the simple steps:

Gather up some tissue paper (colour of your choice) and stack them on top of each other. Line them up so that the edges are square (I had to trim the tissue a bit to achieve this).

Geo confetti 4

Cut them into about 2″ wide strips. They don’t have to be perfect, I just eyeballed it.

Once you have your strips, start cutting them into triangles.  Again, they don’t have to be perfect.

See, I told you it was super easy!

You can store them in a mason jar if you choose.

Geo confetti 3

Or not.

Now for the fun part! Toss them up in the air and go “Weeeeeeeeeee!”

Have fun and please excuse the mess!

Happy Friday!

We are more than a kids’ fashion magazine. We search everywhere for inspiration, and go beyond trends to bring you fashion, style, decor, design, books, DIY, parties, and playthings. Our readers look to us to keep up with the best and most up-to-date concepts in the children’s market worldwide. We have an eye for quirk. We’re high-fashion, but we value whimsy over tradition. We seek to transcend skin color, language and zip codes and bring out the real, wild, magical creativity inherent in every child. And behind Babiekins is an optimistic team of mothers-turned-editors, working from home, often with our own little babiekins climbing on, under and around the desks.
