Fashionkins // Pastels & Primaries

By Leslie Schor, Senior Fashion Editor Leave a Comment

Summertime fun has begun! Okay, it technically begins June 21, but that shouldn’t stop our fun. See below for two looks I created for the season using two color groups, pastels and primaries.  Oh, and a little metallic for fun. I love pieces that feature basic geometric shaped in primary hues. For the pastel look, I focused on whimsical shapes and designs, kind of like a summer galaxy. That summer galaxy vibe lead to the metallic jacket paired with goggles, which is so much fun! The primary look below is perfect for a beach date or garden picnic. While the other, is so fitting for a summer sunset outing for ice cream and milkshakes.

Velveteen Pratham Sale

Velveteen and PrathamUSA have partnered to sell a special holiday capsule collection and donate 100% of the profits to support Pratham’s education programs in Delhi. The sale will be hosted on www.VelveteenClothing.com as a post-Thanksgiving closeout. It launches on Black Friday, November 29, and will continue through Giving Tuesday, December 2, 2014.

This Flash Sale provides an opportunity for customers to support education in India while shopping elegant holiday looks including delicate silk dresses, silvery velvet skirts, stylish baby tunics and much more.

Pratham is the largest educational movement in India. This past September, Velveteen’s founder Laura Eckerman Egloff, visited the Pratham’s library in government schools and a Pratham run Learning Center in the Mayur Vihar neighborhood of New Delhi. She was impressed by the success Pratham, its educators and community volunteers are having in creating educational opportunities for underserved children in India. As a mother of two young children, Laura knows how important it is that all children have access to quality education.  She is committed to work through Velveteen to support programs like Pratham which are working well and making a difference.

“At the heart of Velveteen is the belief that empowerment of children is the first step toward a better future for everyone. We owe it to the world to ensure every child has the opportunity to engage with the world around them – to wander, to explore, to look outward and to shine. Education is the critical first step in unlocking this opportunity for millions of children. We’re thrilled that our first Flash Sale will be in support of the incredible work that Pratham is doing in India.”
We would love to have you join this cause and help those that are less fortunate! You can purchase from the special holiday collection here.

Velveteen Clothing‘s Autumn/Winter 14 line effortlessly blends childhood playfulness (those ruffles!) with sophistication and grace. We’re especially drawn to the use of texture in the knits, which makes the classic styles stand out even more. What’s your favorite piece here?

village

She took their hands and ran
through the lavender lined streets,
under wisteria bows hanging low,
over worn cobblestone paths.

When she turned, a subtle movement, her loose hair danced
gently across the softness of her face.
The glistening light landed in her eyes
and the moment was revealed.

The village told a story,
of youth and growth.
Adventure and enlightenment.

Wisteria hung low, drifting in and out of shadows.
Lavender wisps flickering through warm breezes,
the village was alive and blossoming.
Cascading shades of green trickled over stonewalls,
under wrought iron gates and into the distant horizon.

The children emerged, slowly at first,
feet tapping along worn cobblestone streets.
Muffled sounds quickly became loud drums
marching through pale city scenes.
Tapping turned to twirls and soon they were emerged in dancing.

Their golden colored hair, dusted in sunlight,
floated above shoulders and tall brick barriers.
Laugher wrapped around in circles, endless,
like a freshly bound bouquet of flowers.

They were young and free,
full of sweet wanderlust and dreams.
Youth encompassed them,
and the world was in their hands.

Copyright © 2023 · Babiekins Magazine | A Trendsetting Kids' Fashion Magazine and Online Community for Parents and Children Alike · Since the Southern California birth of Babiekins in 2010, the magazine has grown from into an internationally-recognized print publication with a global circulation and now a thriving online community. We are more than a kids’ fashion magazine. We search everywhere for inspiration, and go beyond trends to bring you fashion, style, decor, design, books, DIY, parties, and playthings. Our readers look to us to keep up with the best and most up-to-date concepts in the children’s market worldwide. We have an eye for quirk. We’re high-fashion, but we value whimsy over tradition. Playful childhood is more important to us than making kids into copycat adults. We believe life is beautiful, life is valuable, and life changes when you see it through the eyes of a child. We seek to transcend skin color, language and zip codes and bring out the real, wild, magical creativity inherent in every child. And behind Babiekins is an optimistic team of mothers-turned-editors, working from home, often with our own little babiekins climbing on, under and around the desks. We want to encourage you, and challenge you to see something different — something special — in yourself and in this world we all share. Welcome to Babiekins!
