Momkins // Holy Grail: The Camel Coat

By Leslie Schor, Senior Fashion Editor Leave a Comment

Guest post by Anna Whitworth.

The legend of the camel coat is as old as Cinderella’s story, isn’t it? The timeless staple of coats, the everlasting symbol of apt elegance. It has been around since forever, am I right? Funny enough, it took me years before I decided to buy one, not because I didn’t want one, but because the legend is so gaudy that finding one, THE ONE, to me seemed as possible as finding a Holy Grail. What length should it be? What material? Do I want the longer straight-line cut or shorter trench-style? Soft and hairy or sleek and nonchalant? Should it have buttons, or just a glorious tie-in? All this pressure to get it right!

There are literally billions of camel coats out there, so if one gets serious about their camel business, they may find themselves in a camel pickle. Because how to decide on that perfect camel? I think the answer is “just pull the trigger and buy one”, that is the paradox and the beauty of THE camel coat. Simply put, it is just really, really hard to acquire a bad one, they ALL are usually pretty good.

Even though this one doesn’t meet all my perfect camel coat standards – I think I want the classic trench coat with the length just below the knee, eventually – this one presents itself rather adequate. With a camel coat you do not need much to make a decent outfit, it makes your job of dressing up stress-free.
And that- my dears, is the magic of staples, of those clothing legends, the reasons of them being the clothing legends to begin with. With this coat, all I had to do is throw on some black ripped jeans and a black sweater, and voila, I am ready to go to brunch without looking like I just woke up, which is actually what I did! Magic, I tell you!
One last word, about the boots, these are a recent score of the Chelsea boot trend, with their classic boot lines and also so darn comfy, men-wear inspired goodness galore, this boot was made for pairing with the classics.

I guess the moral of this story is, ladies, it is best to stick with the classics, they are just so easy to do RIGHT.

Fashionkins// Layering for Fall

By Leslie Schor, Senior Fashion Editor Leave a Comment

As we enter the fall season, transitioning our little one’s wardrobe becomes a fun necessity. Trench coats, knit tights, scarves and dresses are a wonderful way to layer and keep little ones comfortable and warm. Combining whites and rusty fall colors are perfect for transitioning from summer to fall. Rubber boots are great for walking through piles of fallen leaves.

Copyright © 2019 · Babiekins Magazine | A Trendsetting Kids' Fashion Magazine and Online Community for Parents and Children Alike · Since the Southern California birth of Babiekins in 2010, the magazine has grown from into an internationally-recognized print publication with a global circulation and now a thriving online community. We are more than a kids’ fashion magazine. We search everywhere for inspiration, and go beyond trends to bring you fashion, style, decor, design, books, DIY, parties, and playthings. Our readers look to us to keep up with the best and most up-to-date concepts in the children’s market worldwide. We have an eye for quirk. We’re high-fashion, but we value whimsy over tradition. Playful childhood is more important to us than making kids into copycat adults. We believe life is beautiful, life is valuable, and life changes when you see it through the eyes of a child. We seek to transcend skin color, language and zip codes and bring out the real, wild, magical creativity inherent in every child. And behind Babiekins is an optimistic team of mothers-turned-editors, working from home, often with our own little babiekins climbing on, under and around the desks. We want to encourage you, and challenge you to see something different — something special — in yourself and in this world we all share. Welcome to Babiekins!
