The embodiment of ethnic and bohemian style, Antik Batik executes ancient printing, dyeing and embroidery techniques in an updated and current manner. European and Indonesian influences interfuse seamlessly in pieces that evoke the modern bohemian spirit. The children’s summer collection inspires a nomadic feel with bursts of colors and patterns. The designer of the eclectic brand, Gabriella Cortese, shares a little insight with us…
Tell us a little bit about yourself and your family. How is a perfect summer day spent?
I come from Turin in Italy and love to spend my summer days on the Amalfi Coast with my family.
What defines “bohemian-chic” in 2014?
It is a nomadic way a life.
Where do you gather the inspirations for the seasonal collections? Are they driven by trends or are they intrinsic visions?
I gather the inspiration every day…in the street or at a museum in Paris or during one of my many travels.
I do not follow trends!
Which piece from the children’s SS2014 collection is your favorite?
The Brian dress with ethnic ornaments.
How are these designs influenced by the past and how do you make them wearable for the children of today?
By trying to achieve the perfect mix between several textures and styles. Creating a piece where a little girl can feel like a princess and where she can feel comfy.
