Luckiness// Little Indian

hi there -it ‘s christina from neutral hue.  i wanted to share a little shoot of my daughter mila’s first [real ] halloween.  i wanted her costume to be home-made, but i don’t know how to sew.  this option popped into my head inspired by another shoot i was styling up.  she is going to be a little indian, + with all her hair, what else could you possibly think of?  i simply folded over a piece of felt, cut a hole for her head, fringed the sleeves, bottom + neckline , and there you have it.  i braided a belt + head band, attached some feathers + you have some fun accessories.  i like the real look of dress up, and it not being perfectly perfect- what do you think?

happy halloween!

1st Birthday Party Guest Gifts

Hi, it’s Ashley from neutral hue, here to share a fun 1st birthday party idea for your little boy!

We had the most wonderful Woodland Animal celebration for my son Wyatt’s 1st birthday party! He’s all boy and his nursery is decorated in a neutral palette of antlers, linen & burlap, and deer wood-cut prints so it was the perfect extension of how we welcomed him into the world a short year ago.

The adorable “Frances the Bear” invitations from Rifle Paper Co. set the perfect tone from the start and were the inspiration for the party {along with their adorable ABC poster print}. As always, I gathered things I loved on this Pinterest Board, just for Wyatt’s birthday to keep everything creative and in order.

I found a variety of tiny felted and bottlebrush woodland animals and used them to hold little kraft flags on toothpicks to mark the food and other dishes we had for guests. And, used wooden utensils, mason jars, rustic wooden serving pieces and platters to also help set the tone.

One of my favorite elements of the party was Wyatt’s ever-important smash cake {and a few other cakes we made for the guests, of course!} that were made-from-scratch chocolate cakes with a white butter cream icing. Set atop each cake was finely crumbled oreos with little evergreen trees from the craft section. They came out even better than I had envisioned, and Wyatt loved his first taste of dessert!

Our guests left with a little take-home gift that included some of Wyatt’s favorite things, a cute polka-dot kraft bag with animal crackers and a little wooden shaker to add some fun.

We loved making a celebration of our special guy’s 1st birthday party. What themes have you hosted or considered for your little boys?

PARTYKINS :: A First Birthday Soiree

By Neutral Hue Leave a Comment

Hi! It’s Christina, the modern half of neutral hue! I am posting without Ashley today, since i’m featuring my little Mila’s first birthday party. I am tearfully adjusting to the fact that my little lady is now one, but that aside, I had a great time putting together her party fit for a little lady.
I wanted this little soiree to signify soft vintage femininity with a modern touch. I was so excited to create this party for Mila that I made the invitations by hand, months in advance. I had bouquets of Baby’s Breath strung down a feature wall, made a Baby’s Breath crown for Mila and hung a branch from the ceiling with monthly pictures backed with blush card stock I found at Paper Source. I purchased transparent balloons and stuffed them with peach metallic tissue paper.  I found a slew of white vintage handkerchiefs from a local vintage store and layered them across the table as a table runner. Honestly, I originally bought them thinking they would make an interesting swag attaching them by the ends, but designs always change while you’re actually styling.

The gift bags were filled with Wildflower Seed Paper I found on Etsy. The paper was shaped like daisies. Needless to say, I was thrilled with the find and it fit in perfectly — and as you can see here , I just adore flowers.

I made a 3-layer carrot cake from scratch with cream cheese icing (just like my mother made me for my first birthday). Speaking of which, Mila wore the actual dress I wore on my first birthday. It was a perfect fit, and an amazing heirloom and feeling to know I wore the very same dress. Life is just about that, making memories to share from generation to generation. And this party one amazing memory with friends celebrating Mila’s first year.

We are more than a kids’ fashion magazine. We search everywhere for inspiration, and go beyond trends to bring you fashion, style, decor, design, books, DIY, parties, and playthings. Our readers look to us to keep up with the best and most up-to-date concepts in the children’s market worldwide. We have an eye for quirk. We’re high-fashion, but we value whimsy over tradition. Playful childhood is more important to us than making kids into copycat adults. We believe life is beautiful, life is valuable, and life changes when you see it through the eyes of a child. We seek to transcend skin color, language and zip codes and bring out the real, wild, magical creativity inherent in every child. And behind Babiekins is an optimistic team of mothers-turned-editors, working from home, often with our own little babiekins climbing on, under and around the desks. We want to encourage you, and challenge you to see something different — something special — in yourself and in this world we all share. Welcome to Babiekins!
