While the rest of the country is freezing (most of it,anyway) during the months of January and February, the southern part of “The Sunshine State” is warm with the occasional cool breeze. A “chilly” day in Miami still allows for light clothing. It’s actually, a lovely time to visit Miami Beach. One of my favorite things to do in Miami Beach is visit the Lincoln Road Antique & Collectible Market. Taking littles to the market is such a fun adventure. They have a great time searching through all of the vintage treasures and people watching. Some of the goods you can find at the market include handcrafted jewelry, vintage fur coats, and midcentury furniture and art. Of course, you also have to pose with parrots while you are strolling around because that is what any respectable tourist does (we are locals and still got sucked in by the parrots).
Ideas for packing/dressing:
Obviously, we couldn’t resist dressing the girls up. Black and white funky tees by Salt City Emporium are great basics to mix with other items like skirts by Antik Batik and Velveteen. The light cream dress by Velveteen has tiny gold specks that look like confetti in the sunshine. Its loose silhouette allows it to also be used as a tunic and when paired with flared jeans by Jak & Peppar, you end up with an effortless boho look. Let’s talk about those jeans for minute–it’s not often you get a statement piece that is also comfortable. Give me bell bottoms any day! The light blue dress with detachable pocket by Velveteen looks like it was made for wearing on holiday in Miami Beach. Accessories by Hello Shiso add the right touch of whimsy and childish fun to any outfit. Your little one also needs a little pouch to hold all of the treasures they find and the one of a kind ones by Moss & Mountain are so cool! They are handmade with interesting fabrics that evoke a western vibe and come with little cutest little treasures inside.
What to drink/eat:
Grab some freshly squeezed juice from one of the market vendors, or check out some of the restaurants on Lincoln Road. We enjoyed a japanese lunch at Doraku (the kids loved it as much as the grown ups did). To satisfy your sweet tooth, hit up Dylan’s Candy Bar, Serendipity, or Ladureé.
Where to shop:
Although some may argue that Lincoln Road is becoming more of an outdoor mall rather than the eclectic shopping destination it once was, I love any place that has an All Saints and a Zadig and Voltaire.
