School Girl Style: Fall Trends Shopping Guide

By Gina Munsey, Senior Editor Leave a Comment

If you’re like me, you keep dabbling in back-to-school clothes and accessory shopping even after the supply lists are purchased and the first day celebrations are over. It’s never the wrong time of year for a new outfit — or a new pencil case! Pencils and fall just go together.

[First, a disclosure of material connection, and a note about partnerships. Babiekins reached out to a select list of favorite brands in preparation for this feature, and received compensation and complimentary product in exchange for press. We researched and chose these brands based on trend awareness, style, availability, and uniqueness in the marketplace, before coordinating a feature with the brands. We were not required to feature specific products or brands, and were not required to write positive reviews. All opinions are our own.]

To quote You’ve Got Mail, “Don’t you love New York in the fall? It makes me want to buy school supplies. I would send you a bouquet of newly sharpened pencils if I knew your name and address.” (I’m particularly enamored with these delightful pencil cases from Fabelab.)

1. (& 7.) Asteraki, Switzerland

Subscription boxes are nothing new, but the new fashion box brand Asteraki delights us. You name your budget, style preferences, and size, and the style experts at Asteraki will hand-pack you a box full of fabulously eco-friendly styles. Does it work? Without even seeing the other items I was rounding up for color-themed feature inspired by Instagram’s turquoise and coral trend, Asteraki owner chose a coral puma leggings and dress, seen in numbers one and seven of the round-up above. I’d say they nailed it! asteraki.ch, @asteraki.ch on Instagram.

2. Tivoli Clothing, Slovenia

Tivoli Clothing packs a nostalgic punch for me, since I spent my early schoolgirl days in Ljubljana, the capital city of the country which is now known as Slovenia. Named after Ljubljana’s Tivoli Park and gardens, this boutique brand offers marvelous jumpsuits, pinafores, dresses, trousers and tops, in colorful linen and organic cotton. Details like natural-fiber lace and wooden buttons set Tivoli’s garments apart from the crowd. We tested out the Mara romper at a Frida Kahlo exhibition earlier this autumn: so very on trend! tivoliclothing.com, @tivoli_clothing on Instagram.

3. Peridot Kids, Canada

Did you catch Peridot Kids in our huge Top 50 Baby Brands feature? Known for their small-batch / slow-fashion approach, Peridot Kids is launching styles for primary school kids this fall. We’re super excited about this, since we’re already huge fans of their modern organic looks for younger kids. Want a sneak peek? Look no further than the ruffle tulle skirt you see in number three above! peridotkids.com, @peridotkids on Instagram.

4. Lil Bellies, United States

You can’t go anywhere on Instagram without seeing coral and turquoise, so it’s no surprise I’m naming these two colors as the top trends for school girl style. But there’s another swoon-worthy genre in Instaland right now too, the nature-themed flat-lay, and our next retailer @lilbellies’ Instagram feed is a prime example. Shopping Lil Bellies — with categories like Homestead, Library, and Explorers — will have you snapping your own cinematic nature images in no time. lilbellies.com, @lilbellies on Instagram.

5. Fabelab, Denmark

Danish brand Fabelab is a tastemaker; there’s no doubt about that. From toys to bedding to furniture to party decor and beyond, Fabelab curates a truly perfect symphony of brands, textures, and colors. We’re smitten with the Fabelab Schoolkid collection — gym bags, smocks, pencil cases, oh my! We want one of everything, in each colorway. fabelab.com, @fabelabdk on Instagram.

6. Dotti, United States

As classic as an (organic) apple for the teacher, this Manhattan brand’s dresses are inspired by a vintage photograph of grandma Dotti.  With timeless fabric patterns like calico floral, windowpane check, and tiny polka-dots, Dotti reimagines timeless styles for the current millennium. And we think these pure, fresh, flawless vibes are the perfect celebration of childhood,  especially for school picture day! dottishop.com, @dotti.shop on Instagram.

What about you — where’s your favorite place to splurge? What fall season school goodies have you picked up lately?

Copyright © 2023 · Babiekins Magazine | A Trendsetting Kids' Fashion Magazine and Online Community for Parents and Children Alike · Since the Southern California birth of Babiekins in 2010, the magazine has grown from into an internationally-recognized print publication with a global circulation and now a thriving online community. We are more than a kids’ fashion magazine. We search everywhere for inspiration, and go beyond trends to bring you fashion, style, decor, design, books, DIY, parties, and playthings. Our readers look to us to keep up with the best and most up-to-date concepts in the children’s market worldwide. We have an eye for quirk. We’re high-fashion, but we value whimsy over tradition. Playful childhood is more important to us than making kids into copycat adults. We believe life is beautiful, life is valuable, and life changes when you see it through the eyes of a child. We seek to transcend skin color, language and zip codes and bring out the real, wild, magical creativity inherent in every child. And behind Babiekins is an optimistic team of mothers-turned-editors, working from home, often with our own little babiekins climbing on, under and around the desks. We want to encourage you, and challenge you to see something different — something special — in yourself and in this world we all share. Welcome to Babiekins!
