FASHIONKINS // Cactus Love

By Zacha Carpenter, Contributor Leave a Comment

It seems like every summer there is a stand out theme. Last year was the year of the pineapple, they were everywhere and on everything! This year there is no doubt in my mind we have all fallen deeply in love with the cactus. This plant screams hot summer greatness to me and the actual plant itself is so cute looking! When Supayana launched this cacti print, it was love at first sight and we had to have it for the summer! Besides the unique print, the dress itself is very breathable and light for summer days. Kaylee is undeniably still in her girly phase and if it doesn’t spin, shes’s not wearing it! This bow was the next best thing to a crown in her eyes and she loves the flashy factor of its size. So say hello to this summers theme and get ready to obsess over cacti (if you haven’t already). I can’t wait to see what else we snag for our wardrobe!

Momkins// One Plain White Tee, Three Ways

By Brittany Williams, Former Fashion Editor Leave a Comment

I love having essential pieces to wear that have endless versatility. The good ole’ plain white tee is one of those basics that everyone goes to time and time again.  I love a beautifully soft  and oversized fitting tee as the backbone for several outfits that have been on repeat lately.  Running errands all morning (sound familiar?) and it’s black and white for the win.  A flowy white tee, with worn in black denim and sneakers.  Next up,  a quick lunch date with the hubs, in between meetings for him and school pick-ups for me.  I go for silky printed shorts, that also double as “feel like I am still in pjs” comfort. Bonus!  Add in some lace-up sandals and a leather clutch to keep it polished, yet still casual.  Then comes  swimming lessons and pool play-time with the kids after school.  This tee can work as a great swimsuit coverup, which is perfect for endless Summer days in the near future!

Momkins // One-Piece Wonder

By Brittany Williams, Former Fashion Editor Leave a Comment

There is something so wondrous about a jumper.  Easy to throw on and look put together, means more time for important things, not standing in my closet thinking “what do I wear?”.   My favorite jumper is from Flynn Skye, and it can take me from daytime at the park, to nighttime date with my baby daddy in a flash.  Bell Bottom Hem and drawstring waist, mean easy breezy comfort with a very flattering fit.  The perfect staple for Spring and Summer…so jump to it and hop on the one-piece bandwagon!

Momkins // Weekend Loungin’

By Brittany Williams, Former Fashion Editor Leave a Comment

I live for the weekends, as do most people.  For me, the perfect weekend is all about bed-head, comfy knits, and loungin’ with my loved ones at home.  I am a huge fan of printed bells from Novella Royale.  They are super comfy, while also being flattering and fashion forward.  Add a great over sized henley for layering and bare feet, and you have the perfect weekend wear in my book.  Now go on, lounge the day away, and dream of your next weekend without a care in the world.

I love that high waisted jeans are back in style, but with a modern silhouette that makes them totally not like your mama’s jeans she wore in the 80’s. They are super sophisticated and polished, and you can pair them with anything. I like wearing mine with a cropped crochet shirt and a printed boot to add texture and depth to my flare denim. Say bye-bye to your low cut jeans and make friends with a higher waist.

Momkins // Grey on Grey

By Brittany Williams, Former Fashion Editor Leave a Comment

Grey is not a typical color that most associate with happiness. For me however, it makes me smile because it is the perfect neutral base for any outfit. I find myself gravitating toward more grey than ever before. Pair this dull shade with black and it’s chic, brown and it’s earthy, navy and it has a cool vibe. I also love wearing different hues of grey at the same time for a more monochromatic look. A graphic tee that has a long and lean cut, paired with a shrunken motorcycle jacket in a different shades of grey, makes for a casual but fun outfit that I can wear running after my kids or running errands all over town. Navy corduroy flares add a different twist then typical denim, and boom! Nothing dull or moody about this ordinary color. Babiekins Magazine | Grey on Grey

Momkins // Less is More

By Brittany Williams, Former Fashion Editor Leave a Comment

Trends are always fun, but you cant beat classic and simple pieces. On days that I don’t feel like putting a ton of effort into my outfit, I just take it back to the basics. The philosophy of “less is more” is applicable to anyone’s style. Keeping it simple allows you to put minimal effort into your outfit while still looking polished. The power of great fitting denim and a good slouchy tee are underestimated, and both of these basics are a must in my wardrobe. Once I find a perfect fitting tee and jeans, I will wear it over and over again, until I deem it unacceptable to bore myself with the same outfit. No more “I have nothing to wear” complaining allowed. All you have to do is take it back to the simplest form of getting dressed; jeans and a good old t-shirt.

Momkins//Ruffles & Lace

By Leslie Schor, Senior Fashion Editor Leave a Comment

Guest post by Brittany Williams

I love clothing with feminine details like ruffles and lace. If I can simply pull on a cozy sweater with romantic detailing and feel put together, it’s a no brainer in my book. As moms, it is easy to feel “run down” in between errands, diaper changes, and car pool duty. Getting dressed in key pieces with great detailing, that are also comfortable is a great way to feel a little more chic while being in mommy mode.

Another thing I like to do when dressing in ultra feminine pieces, is throwing in some edge. I am all about an eclectic mix of accessories and clothing to make any outfit more unique. Lately I have been pairing girly sweaters with ripped denim and studded boots. Who says you can’t have a little ballerina and rock star attitude all at once?!

We are more than a kids’ fashion magazine. We search everywhere for inspiration, and go beyond trends to bring you fashion, style, decor, design, books, DIY, parties, and playthings. Our readers look to us to keep up with the best and most up-to-date concepts in the children’s market worldwide. We have an eye for quirk. We’re high-fashion, but we value whimsy over tradition. Playful childhood is more important to us than making kids into copycat adults. We believe life is beautiful, life is valuable, and life changes when you see it through the eyes of a child. We seek to transcend skin color, language and zip codes and bring out the real, wild, magical creativity inherent in every child. And behind Babiekins is an optimistic team of mothers-turned-editors, working from home, often with our own little babiekins climbing on, under and around the desks. We want to encourage you, and challenge you to see something different — something special — in yourself and in this world we all share. Welcome to Babiekins!
