The Bear And The Piano

By Donna Tweedale, Former Contributor 1 Comment

Edie and I were super lucky to have got our hands on a copy of the first book written by the talented illustrator David Litchfield.

We sat out in the early evening sunshine to read The Bear And The Piano. The large pages sweeping open onto dramatic scenes. David’s illustrations have a very distinctive style, his use of mixed media and colour create beautiful illustrations with intricate detail and real depth. Each time we’ve read this story Edie has noticed a beautiful little butterfly in the woods, or a quirky expression on a bear hidden deep in the crowd, that she hadn’t noticed the times before.

Follow this little bear as he embarks on a journey that whisks him off to fame and riches on Broadway. when he realises that where he feels the richest, is at home with his  friends, who have a surprise waiting for him.

”until eventually…

The sounds that came from the strange thing were beautiful, and the bear had grown big and strong and grizzly.”

Down The Rabbit Hole

By Donna Tweedale, Former Contributor Leave a Comment

Spring has sprung. This Easter break, between rocking cute hats and hunting for chocolate eggs we finally enjoyed some warmer weather; which calls for bare toes in fresh cut grass.

…And for some downtime after too much chocolate? With Tea Parties and Bunny’s it has to be Alice In Wonderland.

We have a few Babylit books. I find they’re perfect for Edie’s age. Introducing her to a great classic without overwhelming her with too much text. And for when she’s ready for the full story, the characters and base of the story will be familiar to her.

A book full of colour, from the white rabbit, purple bottles, blue caterpillar’s and pink flamingos. A gorgeous addition to our bookshelf.

Funkins // Paula Searing: As Seen In Print Issue 4

Babiekins Magazine || Art by Paula Searing For Print Issue 4

When I was a little girl, my mother and I would sit on her bed and read books nearly every night. Almost every other week, she would take my sister and I to the library to choose our very own books. Our favorite books included Where is Waldo and I Spy, not only because they were fun and interactive books, but because it took longer to get to bed. I could’t find Waldo in the beach crowd, so I HAD to stay up until I did ( night owl problems)! When I started Babiekins, I wanted to make sure that we had some sort of interactive feature in each print issue, so that kids could enjoy the magazine just as must as much as their design savvy parents. This last issue has got to be, hands down, my favorite. We have so MANY amazing photographers, artists and contributors that took their time to share their love for what they do to contribute to Babiekins Magazine, so that YOU could enjoy it.

One of my absolute favorite features in print 4 is the Meadow & Jupiter’s Summer Adventure, which combines my love of having an excuse to stay up later then I was supposed to and the pure talent of Paula Searing’s whimsical art. Paula Searing is an incredible artist that understands the magic of childhood! I can’t get enough of the fun pages that Paula has created. Have you had a chance to see this fun-filled feature and find all the little surprises and funny scenes yet?

Copyright © 2023 · Babiekins Magazine | A Trendsetting Kids' Fashion Magazine and Online Community for Parents and Children Alike · Since the Southern California birth of Babiekins in 2010, the magazine has grown from into an internationally-recognized print publication with a global circulation and now a thriving online community. We are more than a kids’ fashion magazine. We search everywhere for inspiration, and go beyond trends to bring you fashion, style, decor, design, books, DIY, parties, and playthings. Our readers look to us to keep up with the best and most up-to-date concepts in the children’s market worldwide. We have an eye for quirk. We’re high-fashion, but we value whimsy over tradition. Playful childhood is more important to us than making kids into copycat adults. We believe life is beautiful, life is valuable, and life changes when you see it through the eyes of a child. We seek to transcend skin color, language and zip codes and bring out the real, wild, magical creativity inherent in every child. And behind Babiekins is an optimistic team of mothers-turned-editors, working from home, often with our own little babiekins climbing on, under and around the desks. We want to encourage you, and challenge you to see something different — something special — in yourself and in this world we all share. Welcome to Babiekins!
