When I first started the magazine almost 2 years ago, my intention was to not only bring high fashion and styled kiddos to you, but also to give you a glimpse into a “momma turned fashion editor’s” life. You see, my life isn’t all glamour and glitz, it’s not just photo shoots and exciting meetings; I have 2 little ones myself, and they are two very, very, VERY active little boys, to be exact. I thought it might be fun and a little bit amusing to blog once in a while about the real side of being a mom and editor. I’m planning on giving you a real glimpse into my life, the craziness and the fun that goes along in creating a magazine while attending to two little curly-headed boys.
My first story? Well, it’s probably something every mom can relate to: your babiekins wanting to talk to you while you are on the phone! My oldest son is in first grade which is very helpful during the day, but my youngest (who just turned four) stays home with me everyday, besides the days he goes to preschool. He can be adorable and a little stinker! Gearing up for our first print issue means planning a lot, making important calls and having some meetings with some VIP’s! On this particular day, I was on the phone with a very important lady talking about the future of Babiekins in print. I was at home during this call and wanted to make sure that my son was occupied so he wouldn’t barge in my office while talking on the phone. He was watching tv, had his little snacks and was totally content eating his lunch, so I went in my office and started the conversation. After about 10 minutes into this telephone call, my son comes in and tells me in a very loud four-year-old voice that he needs to P-double O-P!
Now, if this person could see my face they would have seen a woman in her 20 somethings turn completely red. I tried to regroup in my head the different possibilities…should I hang up? Should I distract him? Should I put him on the toilet and say something? There wasn’t really anything I could do and she totally heard him say that he needed to sit down and go number two. “My son needs to poop,” is exactly what I said. I didn’t try to sugar coat the situation or use a different word…yes, I said POOP! She laughed and I knew that she had been through the exact same thing!
Now, I swear….the only time my kids decide they want to use the bathroom is when we are running late, are going out the door, or I’m on the phone! These kinds of things make our lives as mothers so hectic, doesn’t it? It also keeps us grounded because at the end of the day, I’m nothing more than a mom to both my Babiekins, and there isn’t another thing I rather be.
Big hugs!
xoxo
