After an intense heat wave in Western Australia, we have been seeking refuge next to the sea. The salty air always cools us down and the wide open spaces lends itself as an endless playground for our wild girls. We frolic, splash and refresh before the littles fall fast asleep on the drive home with sandy toes and full hearts. Add in a twinning combo of ethically made outfits and my mama heart skips a beat.

Classic pieces are always great investments for your babiekin’s wardrobe. Add a little bit of quirk to plaid shirts, white button-ups, and bermuda shorts with kitschy suspenders and funky frames.

The weather can be a bit confusing during those first few weeks of Fall. Warm sunny mornings that quickly transition into cooler afternoons. I always carry a sweater for Lucas and well, I think little cardigans are just about the cutest thing ever! This cardigan from Eden & Zoe is a staple in Lucas’s closet. The soft cashmere means Lucas is comfortable and it transitions for different occasions perfectly. Paired with knee highs and moccs, and you have one adorable Fall outfit! I had the opportunity to chat with Christine, founder and designer of Boy + Girl. The gorgeous collection is one of a kind. I have fallen head over heels with each design as well as the integrity of the brand. Here is what Christine had to say:
What inspired you to start boy + girl?
There are a lot of great women’s and menswear designers that I love and I wondered why there wasn’t something more like that for kids. I love textures and beautiful fabrics mixed with clean, minimalist design and I wanted to incorporate that for kidswear.
What is most important to you when sourcing your materials and fabric?
It’s a pretty natural process, every season I just grab what I love and from there I make a story. Materials are really the heart of the line. I really love natural fabrics, they wash great and they drape well so we use a lot of washed linens and cottons. Patterns and prints are always hard to find which is why this season we partnered with our cottons supplier to produce a custom organic stripe. Sustainability is at the heart of b+g so we strive to use organic fabrics and low-impact processes wherever we can.
How would you describe the child who wears boy + girl?
Definitely boy+girl has a California, west coast vibe. Boy is more rooted in surf and skate, we do a lot of cut-off shorts and bajas. Mostly soft knit terrys and fleece for him so he can run around and be active! Girl is a bit more feminine, boho. She’s a bit more european – those classic cuts that are timeless but not stiff.
What/who was the inspiration behind your Fall 2014 collection?
Fall/Holiday is always an interesting one for us since we are based here in sunny venice. I like it to be warm but not dark, the duality of using vibrant colors during a ‘dark’ season is interesting I think. So we gravitated towards and landed on some beautiful organic knits that are soft and cozy in fun, easy silhouettes such as bubble dresses and harem pants. We also sourced a flannel that is made in Portugal, I think they are a beautiful interpretation of modern almost digital looking prints.

We were SO excited to see the Spring 2012 collection by one of our all time favorite designers Kat West from Babylady inc. In their new spring collection you will see the familiar harem pant in mini ginhams and solids and the mega popular Blushing Love tee! Our favorite piece in the collection for 2012 is the Jesse Jumper. In our opinion every little girl need at least one jumper in her wardrobe and the Jesse Jumper is our jumper pick for 2012!
