Editor's Picks // Summer Outfit Ideas for Girls from Mabo Kids

[Disclosure of Material Connection: Babiekins Magazine received complimentary clothing from Mabo in exchange for this post. Babiekins personally hand-selected each of the editor’s pick products featured here, and was not required to write a positive review or feature specific items.]

Do you have a hard time finding stylish clothes for girls? I’m always on the search for outfits which aren’t too grown-up — but aren’t too frumpy and outdated, either. Even though this girl of mine has several years before she’s a teenager, she’s outgrown the sweet little outfits in the preschool section (::sob::). Already at just size 6/7/8, I’m finding that so many of the outfits in her size are have odd sayings emblazoned across the front — slogans I’m just not crazy about a second-grader wearing!

And I’m a firm believer children’s’ fashion is more than making kids into tiny adults — it’s all about real, wild, childhood.

Real childhood is full of sunshine-drenched, messy-haired, carefree magic. (Oh, to be little again.)

Think back to the most idyllic memory of your childhood — maybe catching tadpoles, creating a blanket fort while the thunder crashed down outside, or swinging your legs from a tree branch while lost in a Nancy Drew novel. Mabo really nails those memories with their summer lineup. These throw-back styles are

  • 100% cotton,
  • made in the USA,
  • span a classic color palette,
  • are well-made, and
  • tailored so beautifully!

Did you catch my unboxing video on Instagram stories? If you click over to the Editor’s highlight and tap through the stories there, you’ll find the whole series of unboxing videos, about eight stories in. In the videos, I show you each one of these fab garments and talk about why they made the cut for my Editor’s Picks series this summer (spoiler alert — it’s the 1940s-inspired flair and the super-soft fabric!)

My daughter and I were hanging out a coffee shop here in the Nashville suburbs earlier this week, and got so many comments about her outfit — lots of women said they wished it came in their size. (Are you in Utah? You can actually browse through Mabo women’s clothing in person at the Mabo flagship store in Salt Lake City! How cool is that? They have a selection of women’s styles online, too, for those of us who can’t make the trek to SLC.)

If you, like me, want to dress your girl in classic, age-appropriate styles — and you don’t want licensed characters, Barbie pink, or questionable tween styles — then hop over to Mabo and browse their boys, girls, and unisex summer clothing.

My top picks from Mabo this season:

01. // Fringed Saddle Shoes in Burgundy and Camel (real leather!)

02. // Puff-Sleeve Pointelle Sweater in Pistachio

03. // Remy Sailor Pants in Storm Linen and Cotton

04. // Organic Cotton Tank Top in Graphite

05. // James Track Shorts in Moss with Grey Binding

06. // Organic Cotton Striped Nautical Tee in Natural and Scarlet

Here’s to creating a wild summer your kids will remember for the rest of their lives!

P.S. Her bookworm necklace was a gift from Gunner & Lux, and the sunnies were a gift from Zoobug. She’s wearing a discontinued style — but you can get similar Zoobug sunglasses here. Happy summer!

Copyright © 2023 · Babiekins Magazine | A Trendsetting Kids' Fashion Magazine and Online Community for Parents and Children Alike · Since the Southern California birth of Babiekins in 2010, the magazine has grown from into an internationally-recognized print publication with a global circulation and now a thriving online community. We are more than a kids’ fashion magazine. We search everywhere for inspiration, and go beyond trends to bring you fashion, style, decor, design, books, DIY, parties, and playthings. Our readers look to us to keep up with the best and most up-to-date concepts in the children’s market worldwide. We have an eye for quirk. We’re high-fashion, but we value whimsy over tradition. Playful childhood is more important to us than making kids into copycat adults. We believe life is beautiful, life is valuable, and life changes when you see it through the eyes of a child. We seek to transcend skin color, language and zip codes and bring out the real, wild, magical creativity inherent in every child. And behind Babiekins is an optimistic team of mothers-turned-editors, working from home, often with our own little babiekins climbing on, under and around the desks. We want to encourage you, and challenge you to see something different — something special — in yourself and in this world we all share. Welcome to Babiekins!
