Craftykins // National Siblings Day Craft Project!

By Taylor Mead Leave a Comment

National Siblings Day

Our friend Carly is an ever clever mom and with this sweet little holiday approaching, she’s inspiring us with a fun and easy craft project to unite the kiddos! Let’s take a look:

National Siblings Day is coming up and it inspired me to pull together an art project that all three of our kids could tackle. For the longest time it’s just been the oldest two having fun together while the baby sits off to the side but now he’s getting old enough to join in and hold his own. It’s incredible to see how strong the bond is between these little people and I wanted to capture that somehow.

Time to Complete: 15 minutes

Project Supplies:

  • Poster Paper
  • Washable Poster Paint (3 or more colors)
  • Paint Tray or Wax Paper
  • Heavy object to hold down poster paper
  • Picture Frame of choice
  • Gold Metallic Pen (optional)

We ended up doing a big messy cooperative art project using things we already had around the house. I pulled out a roll of poster paper (seriously the best investment if you have tiny creators in your house), three colors of washable poster paint, some wax paper to put the paint on, and some cans of soup to hold the poster paper down while the kids worked. Each child got their own color because I wanted to be able to tell the handprints apart when they were finished, but other than that there were no rules.

Fifteen minutes and six painty hands later, the kids got a bath and I got a huge gorgeous piece of art to work with. After letting it dry, I picked out some of my favorite sections to frame. I used a gold pen to write the year and everyone’s names next to their handprints and then we scattered the pictures around our home. The kids love having framed art that they created in their rooms and I love that they have each have a little piece of something they made together.

Craftykins // Crepe Paper Pencil Surprise

By Ruby Leave a Comment

crepe paper pencil surprise

Can you believe summer whizzed on by and kids are headed back to school?! I simply cannot! Let’s get the children excited to head back to school with this Crepe Paper Pencil Surprise! Inspired by the Crepe Carrot Surprise that I made one Easter, this fun gift will definitely get your kids enthused about the start of the new school year. You can fill it with some pretty school supplies or maybe some sweet treats to celebrate your little one’s new school adventures. This would even make a great gift for a teacher! I wouldn’t mind receiving it loaded with chocolate treats; chocolate definitely helps me get through the school year.

Crepe Paper Pencil Surprise

Total time: 30 minutes

Supplies:
Crepe paper streamers, various colors to get the pencil look
Paper towel cardboard roll
Small piece of pink construction paper
Brown cardstock
Glue
Scissors

Directions:
1. With the brown card stock (or can use a stiff paper bag), cut out a triangle with a rounded base (similar shape to 1/4 of a pie) and use that to create a cone. Glue the sides together to form the cone. Place on top of one end of the paper roll, and glue the cone and roll together. Add a dab of glue as you go and proceed to wrap the cone with beige crepe paper streamer.

2. Add dabs of glue as you go, continue to wrap the roll with yellow crepe paper streamer to create the body of the pencil.

3. Once about 2 1/2″ from the top, wrap with grey/light blue crepe paper streamer stopping about 1/4″ from the top of the roll.

4. Fill your roll with surprises! Since children are heading back to school, put in pencils, markers, erasers, and some clips.

5. Using the pink construction paper, cut out a circle slightly larger than the roll opening. Line the edges of the circle with glue, cover the opening, press down the edges of the circle to secure to the top of the roll.

6. Proceed to cover the top of the pencil with the pink crepe paper streamer, glueing as you go to secure.

By Rachel Fox Kipphut, Contributor Leave a Comment

“Oh say can you see, some fruit on a stick” ……
Looking for a last minute Fourth of July craft or to jazz up some food for guests this Fourth of July? Than look no further than the “Star Spangled” fruit wand. Or Kabob. Whichever you would like to call it!

Babiekins Magazine || July 4th Fruit Wand / Kabob
With one quick trip to the grocery store, I was able to purchase everything I needed to make these fabulous fruit wands.
You can even get a star cookie cutter from the dollar store.

Here is how you do it :
+ Take your watermelon and make thin slices so that you can use the cookie cuter to pop out the watermelon stars.
+ Wash your berries and start making your berry patterns by pushing the berries onto the stick.
+ Throw in a Marshmallow (that was my “white” for “red, “white” an “blue” ) or not. My kids went straight for the Marshmallow first, then the fruit.
+ Endless pattern possibilities! No two fruit kabobs can be alike!
+ Enjoy!

Craftykins // Carrot Cupcakes

Babiekins Magazine || Carrot Cupcakes
We are getting ready for Easter over here in North Carolina and we LOVE Carrot Cake here at the Kipphut House. Easter is a great time to make carrot cake!
You don’t have to make your carrot cake from scratch ( if you can, you’re amazing!) but you can also buy a mix. I found some really yummy mixes from Homegoods the store. They were so good that I went back to get more, but they were all sold out.

I used a heart-shape silicon bake wear left over from Valentine’s day ( why not? lol) &
Red & Yellow Food Coloring to make my White Cream Cheese Frosting …. ORANGE!
I then took green construction paper and folded it in half. On the side without the crease, I cut fringes on the paper for the “carrot stem”.
Then I took a knife and made a slit at the top of the “heart” and stuck in the green paper stalk.
That’s it!
Enjoy!

Copyright © 2021 · Babiekins Magazine | A Trendsetting Kids' Fashion Magazine and Online Community for Parents and Children Alike · Since the Southern California birth of Babiekins in 2010, the magazine has grown from into an internationally-recognized print publication with a global circulation and now a thriving online community. We are more than a kids’ fashion magazine. We search everywhere for inspiration, and go beyond trends to bring you fashion, style, decor, design, books, DIY, parties, and playthings. Our readers look to us to keep up with the best and most up-to-date concepts in the children’s market worldwide. We have an eye for quirk. We’re high-fashion, but we value whimsy over tradition. Playful childhood is more important to us than making kids into copycat adults. We believe life is beautiful, life is valuable, and life changes when you see it through the eyes of a child. We seek to transcend skin color, language and zip codes and bring out the real, wild, magical creativity inherent in every child. And behind Babiekins is an optimistic team of mothers-turned-editors, working from home, often with our own little babiekins climbing on, under and around the desks. We want to encourage you, and challenge you to see something different — something special — in yourself and in this world we all share. Welcome to Babiekins!
