Partykins // Halloween Costumes Hiding In Your Wardrobe

By Donna Tweedale, Former Contributor Leave a Comment

Feeling a little uninspired by the Halloween outfits available on our high street for the little ones, I got to thinking of how I could make a costume from their everyday wardrobe… adding a few key accessories with a strategic use of Mumma’s eyeliner we were ready for a game of hide and seek in the woods.

Incorporating some stripes and boots. A subtle nod to the classic ‘Hocus Pocus’ Witches style. A dark blue velvet jacket gave Edie’s Cat outfit had an androgynous edge.

I love textures, the mix of a delicate fabric with a chunky knit. Teamed with Atsuyo Et Akiko Angel Wings. Ta-Dah… a Woodland Fairy.

Add a cape to a monochrome outfit, some boots, a pair of comfy trews, smudge some eyeliner, slick their hair … Ta-Dah.. We have a spooky Bat Charmer.

Fashionkins // Conceptual Deer Costume

By Leslie Schor, Senior Fashion Editor Leave a Comment

When dreaming up costumes for your babiekins, don’t be afraid to think conceptually. Julie shows us how sculpting feathers into deer antlers, creates a dramatic and unique costume.

DIY Deer:
1. Pull a simple cream or even tan/brown dress from her closet.
2. Add a touch of face paint
3. Grab a cute skirt (a la the grey/silver Velveteen skirt) to wear as a trendy capelet.
You can even buy a small cut of faux fur, as I did with the cream minky fabric and the brown faux fur. Wrap around her shoulder and quick-sew a couple of buttons or a bow!
4. Make or buy a simple pair of antlers (even from cardboard!), and she’s the most unique and stylish deer in the neighborhood.

Featurekins // Happy Quirky Halloween

By Leslie Schor, Senior Fashion Editor Leave a Comment

Guest post by Julie Martin in collaboration with Babiekins Magazine

Creating a one-of-a-kind costume for your little babiekins doesn’t have to break the bank. With just a few craft supplies, houseshold items and some creativity, a quirky and unique look is as close as your child’s closet! Mix and match your kiddo’s current wardrobe to create a celery and carrot in dip (add greenery, posterboard and a cute label). Saguaro cactus? All you need is a green ensemble with a few fresh flowers. A fun look for siblings (or twins!) is a lamp and coffee table. Grab a cord for a tail and a lampshade, and pair with a gold dress! To construct the coffee table, simply cut up a large box and leave a hole in the center. Add a couple of books and a flower arrangement!

Children’s Book Character OLIVIA

By Gina Munsey, Senior Editor 1 Comment

Olivia’s distinctive black, red, and white attire seems very autumnal to me. Does it to you, too? Here are a couple of ways you can jazz up Olivia’s go-to look, without the resulting outfit looking as though it came from a costume shop.

Get the Look - Dress your Child like the Children's Book Character Olivia - as seen on the Babiekins Magazine Blog

1. Party pants by Bangbang Copenhagen via Thumbeline // 2. Lucky pants by Bangbang Copenhagen via Thumbeline // 3. Cashmere jailhouse legging by Noé & zöe + Tannhauser via Thumbeline
4.  Style oS005 via SUOAK // 5. Girls’ Everyday Leggings in Boatstripe via J. Crew // 6. Sequin Bow via Bows for Show // 7. Tassel Handbag via Zara Kids

What’s your favorite item here? I’m partial to those cashmere leggings with the neon zipper — but honestly, I’ll wear just about anything striped.

Copyright © 2022 · Babiekins Magazine | A Trendsetting Kids' Fashion Magazine and Online Community for Parents and Children Alike · Since the Southern California birth of Babiekins in 2010, the magazine has grown from into an internationally-recognized print publication with a global circulation and now a thriving online community. We are more than a kids’ fashion magazine. We search everywhere for inspiration, and go beyond trends to bring you fashion, style, decor, design, books, DIY, parties, and playthings. Our readers look to us to keep up with the best and most up-to-date concepts in the children’s market worldwide. We have an eye for quirk. We’re high-fashion, but we value whimsy over tradition. Playful childhood is more important to us than making kids into copycat adults. We believe life is beautiful, life is valuable, and life changes when you see it through the eyes of a child. We seek to transcend skin color, language and zip codes and bring out the real, wild, magical creativity inherent in every child. And behind Babiekins is an optimistic team of mothers-turned-editors, working from home, often with our own little babiekins climbing on, under and around the desks. We want to encourage you, and challenge you to see something different — something special — in yourself and in this world we all share. Welcome to Babiekins!
