Velveteen Clothing‘s Autumn/Winter 14 line effortlessly blends childhood playfulness (those ruffles!) with sophistication and grace. We’re especially drawn to the use of texture in the knits, which makes the classic styles stand out even more. What’s your favorite piece here?

une belle époque is a newbie online children’s boutique which was started in 2013 by two sisters passionate about timeless and simple children’s clothing. I first ran into them on instagram and just loved their dark and moody images and couldn’t get enough of their clothes that have a very French and vintage vibe to it. So we invited Dee Purdy of une belle époque to talk with us about the things she loves, what she wanted to be when she was little and the most magical thing about children.
Enjoy!
Where are you from: I grew up in South Africa but now, I live in London with my Australian husband and two small children.

How many children do you have // Two girls, Limi (3) and Claya (18 months)

What’s the most magical thing about having children// For the most part, it’s all magical…….but especially the surprising conversations like discussing why clouds float and how whales wee……

What do you do (job)// In 2013, my sister and I started a kids brand called ‘une belle époque’….we grew up with a mother who was a brilliant seamstress and made up a lot of our ‘designs’. in 2010, i had my fist daughter and wanted to dress her in a simple style, mostly found in French designs. i found beautiful pieces but couldn’t afford to fill her closet with these labels. pregnant with my second daughter, i decided that i wanted to create a small label of kids clothes that focuses heavily on simple styles, natural fabrics and a bit of vintage English detailing. it’s early days but we’ve had amazing feedback and we’re working hard to grow the brand into the vision that we have in our heads.

What did you want to be when you were little// First a ballerina and then for a very long time, I wanted to be a vet but on big animals like cows and horses for some reason……

What are your favourite things in the kids world right now//
1. Pepper Ink: Limi is crazy about stickers and tattoos at the moment so Pepper Ink are an amazing company who make temporary tattoos – i love their vintage florals.
2. Aigle Kids Wellington Boots: there has been so much rain in England this Winter. these boots make it all about the fun of splashing in puddles.
3. Caroline Bosmans: a talented Belgium designer whose latest collection, TMMDI, is amazing
4. Books by Chris Haughton: we have to read ‘Oh No, George!’ to Claya every. single.night
5. Elastic Bands: we’re making an elastic band bouncy ball at the moment….

Something I have always wanted to do but haven’t is… // Learn to surf. I grew up around the sea in South Africa and never took the chance that was right in front of me…..now, there’s not as much surfing to be done in and around London.

Name one person we should all be following on instagram//
kristinrogers (although i think that everyone is already following her 🙂 – for the humour and surprises in her feed

Minti Clothing found here has been such a inspiration to my boys. These clothes are so playful, very soft, & fun. Wacky images and patches shown on super cute tees & sweats are a good reminder that they are for kids! Who doesn’t love that?!

More Minti shown here on my boys in a family lunch outing earlier today! Crew stuck on a mask and altered his outfit to fit his superhero lifestyle & Cash just went the easy route by hopping in boots. I love these pieces & finding a brand that even your child can style!

Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend from my Babiekins to yours!

XO

1. Bangbang Copenhagan Jumpsuit via Nordic★Kids | 2. Shusha Portrait Game via Depst | 3. Fitz Kitz Silver Espadrilles via Kixx | 4. Les Enfantines Collar via Clara de Paris | 5. Land of Nod Bed’s Best Friend Pillowcase

Are you partial to black and white? Or do you crave a little more color in your life? Me, I’m very much in a grayscale phase right now — but I have to admit, with Easter coming up, I’m having a hard time staying away from color.

Next up…a round-up of either mint, coral, lemon yellow, emerald, or multi-color. Vote for your favorite color in the comments, and next post I’ll bring you my top picks in the winning color!

Featurekins // Minabulle Fall-Winter 2012 Collection

By Gina Munsey, Senior Editor 6 Comments

We love this collection just released by Minabulle! Each of these unique garments — in calming, wintery blues, grays and greens — is handmade in France. Designer Emilie Moreau has been creating retro-modern children’s clothing since 2009, and we think the combination of French chic and playful is just perfect.

Copyright © 2023 · Babiekins Magazine | A Trendsetting Kids' Fashion Magazine and Online Community for Parents and Children Alike · Since the Southern California birth of Babiekins in 2010, the magazine has grown from into an internationally-recognized print publication with a global circulation and now a thriving online community. We are more than a kids’ fashion magazine. We search everywhere for inspiration, and go beyond trends to bring you fashion, style, decor, design, books, DIY, parties, and playthings. Our readers look to us to keep up with the best and most up-to-date concepts in the children’s market worldwide. We have an eye for quirk. We’re high-fashion, but we value whimsy over tradition. Playful childhood is more important to us than making kids into copycat adults. We believe life is beautiful, life is valuable, and life changes when you see it through the eyes of a child. We seek to transcend skin color, language and zip codes and bring out the real, wild, magical creativity inherent in every child. And behind Babiekins is an optimistic team of mothers-turned-editors, working from home, often with our own little babiekins climbing on, under and around the desks. We want to encourage you, and challenge you to see something different — something special — in yourself and in this world we all share. Welcome to Babiekins!
