Sleepykins // A Vibrant Shared Space

By Leslie Schor, Senior Fashion Editor 1 Comment

Guest post by Linda of Live Loud Girl.

We were so happy that we could finally work with the amazing Rafa Kids bunk bed. This elegant, modern and light piece of furniture is great for smaller spaces. To mis match this eye-catcher, we went for a boho look Azilal berber on the by Rozen Kelim and some stunning vintage pieces like the green cabinet, the mini desk and a petit Thonet chair.
To compensate this circus of colors we chose a striking monochrome wall paper from Bien Fait. How fun is it to bring the jungle inside?!

Sleepykins // Avie’s dreamy room.

By Mel Spurling, Contributor 2 Comments

Now here’s a little girl’s room which captivated me at first glance.  Avie’s room.  The beautiful daughter of the creative and inspirational mumma, Bek Halliday.

Bek has always had a passion for interior styling.  “Children’s spaces are definitely the most fun to decorate! You can truly be imaginative and create something magical. I think we all want our kids to grow up surrounded by wonder and a little magic”.

Avie’s room is ever evolving (due to her mumma’s obsession with decorating!).  Bek’s  is always drawn to the same soft pastel tones.   She wanted to create a pretty space which wasn’t overly ‘girly’. Bek loves Scandinavian inspired kids rooms and when designing little Avie’s room, she had a fair idea  of what she wanted and also searched the internet and Instagram for inspirational ideas.

Bek’s favourite item in Avie’s room is her painted wall feature with all the bits and bobs on it.   Bek was so scared to steer away from the safe white walls, although, the risk definitely paid off.

Avie’s favourite item in her room is her bed!  She tends to jump on it… A LOT!  “Avie is only four, so I don’t think she really minds what I do with it [her room] for now.  Thankfully!

When shopping for her room, there were so many amazing stores that Bek found through Instagram. “This is definitely where I found my favourite pieces for her space.  I like to splurge on pieces that I just can’t live without, and source similar pieces to items that were out of my price range.  For example, I wanted a bed that I saw at Domayne, although, Avie’s bed is actually from Fantastic Furniture for a quarter of the price.”

Bek also shops on Etsy and scouts local markets and mainstream shops such as Country Road, Cotton On Kids and Typo for fun and quirky pieces; Ikea is a go to  place for shelving and frames.

“Sometimes if I can’t find just the right thing, I make it myself. This is how I started my art business. I love to create, I always have. Painting is a strong passion that I have wanted to fulfil for so long.  I love the satisfaction of looking at one of my pieces and saying ‘hey, you know what, that’s actually pretty good!’   Ten years ago I wouldn’t of had the confidence to pursue my dream. I guess after having my two babes, the time is just right now”.

Sleepykins//Piper’s Dreamy Room

By Leslie Schor, Senior Fashion Editor Leave a Comment

Guest post by Ashley Williamson.

Piper’s room has a mix of vintage and new toys and furniture with loads of girly touches and nostalgia for childhood. My girls love playing in this room. Endless tea parties, setting up Sylvanian families, quiet reading and playing dress-up. Piper is a real bowerbird and is constantly bringing home shells, rocks, nuts, anything she can find from her adventures and these are tucked around the room, along with fairy glitter and little treasures.

There is no theme, but in our home we try to keep things around that are beautiful, useful, or meaningful and Piper’s space definitely is the child version of this!

She is four years old so needs space to stretch her imagination. A lot of our parenting ideals reside in Steiner philosophies, with toys being simple and often made of natural materials, allowing the girls to have open ended play. Piper is able to disappear in her imagination in this space for hours. Our little dreamer!

Sleepykins// A Space for Livia in Holland

By Leslie Schor, Senior Fashion Editor Leave a Comment

My name is Kirsten. I’m from Holland and I am the happily married mum of Livia (16 months old). I’m honored to be featured on this amazing magazine’s site. I just love to look for inspiration about interior design, especially kids’ interiors. I’m always busy in our house, rearranging and creating new corners. When I was pregnant, I couldn’t wait to start with the baby’s room. The first thing we bought was the wallpaper, it’s from Fine Little Day. I love the print and Livia does, too. She wants to count all of the little trees. I love the “seventy tree” panda poster and it looks great on that wall. I’m also a big fan of vintage items. I always use vintage furniture. In this room, the shelves are all vintage. I found them online on Marktplaats, a dutch second hand website. The lockers are from Ikea, I like them in this room because I didn’t wanted the room to be to “girly.”
Urban Outfitters sells nice rugs, like the one in Livia’s room, and quirky accessories.

In our living room, we created a separate corner for Livia to play. The tent from Ferm living was a birthday present as were the little “Brio” stove and cart. We put up some shelves, so I can always change the things I put on it and create different moods. And I change things around often because I just like too much! Some of my favorite dutch web shops are www.suussies.nl for beautiful dolls and www.psikhouvanjou.nl for toys, books and accessories.

Today I am bringing you a little nursery tour for my sweet baby boy, Stiles Vaughan, who is due in a few weeks! I wanted a room for him that felt like it had been lived in for a long time already and not just full of a bunch of random new baby things that usually go in a nursery. I wanted to somehow combine black and white with lots of color pops and that cozy cabin vibe with  clean modern lines so that it would flow with the rest of our home. I am so happy with how it all turned out and I can’t to put a certain little someone in it soon!

Furniture: Tall Dresser, vintage. Credenza/changing table, Ikea. Rocking Chair, 2Modern. Crib, Target. Mobile, DIY. Linens, vintage and homemade. Giraffe Hooks, World Market. Prints: ‘I’m so glad you were born’, Anna Tovar.  ‘I love you to the moon and back’ Yellow Button Studio. Deer and Fox, Likely Baby Story. ‘There are far better things ahead than any we have left behind’, Cavely. Prints not listed are vintage or were gifts. Blue changing pad, Keekaroo. Mr. Fox, A Little Bundle. Lighting Cloud Plushie, These Things. Leather Baby Biker hat, custom from Heavy Metal Boyfriend. Triangle Wall Decals, DIY.

Copyright © 2023 · Babiekins Magazine | A Trendsetting Kids' Fashion Magazine and Online Community for Parents and Children Alike · Since the Southern California birth of Babiekins in 2010, the magazine has grown from into an internationally-recognized print publication with a global circulation and now a thriving online community. We are more than a kids’ fashion magazine. We search everywhere for inspiration, and go beyond trends to bring you fashion, style, decor, design, books, DIY, parties, and playthings. Our readers look to us to keep up with the best and most up-to-date concepts in the children’s market worldwide. We have an eye for quirk. We’re high-fashion, but we value whimsy over tradition. Playful childhood is more important to us than making kids into copycat adults. We believe life is beautiful, life is valuable, and life changes when you see it through the eyes of a child. We seek to transcend skin color, language and zip codes and bring out the real, wild, magical creativity inherent in every child. And behind Babiekins is an optimistic team of mothers-turned-editors, working from home, often with our own little babiekins climbing on, under and around the desks. We want to encourage you, and challenge you to see something different — something special — in yourself and in this world we all share. Welcome to Babiekins!
