Travelkins // Dear Miami: South Beach

By Leslie Schor, Senior Fashion Editor 1 Comment

My love affair with street style themed shoots continues as we explore the residential streets of South Beach, Miami. Away from the two main streets that boast nightclubs, shops and restaurants, you will find the residential pocket of South Beach. I adore the Art Deco architecture and fun colors in which the buildings are painted. It is so “Miami” and so special.

Places to go when you visit: South Pointe Park for views and playgrounds, Ocean Drive for the restaurants and beach, Lincoln Road for restaurants and amazing shopping, and Española Way for quaint shops and restaurants.

As for styling, a mix of modern silhouettes in pastels and bright hues mixed with jellies and clogs seemed appropriate for the location. I really love seeing the relationship between the clothing and the architecture. And Celia captures this so expertly. I literally gasped when I received her email with the link to the images! So fun to collaborate creatively with someone that just “gets” what you are looking for.

I hope that you enjoy our little peeks into the beautiful city that is Miami…

Though comparatively mild to the rest of our Great White North neighbours, Vancouver’s West Coast winters are no joke. So, when the sunshine decides to turn up, the city and its inhabitants get that much needed vitamin D boost. Reenergized and revitalized, the boys and I take advantage of outdoor urban life as much as we can. Aimlessly wandering, we naturally started our day at the park. Fresh air and fun times always leaves us a bit famished. We eventually found ourselves down at Granville Island for a little refuelling. Sitting outside on the pier not only allows us to take in the beautiful waterfront views but keeps the little ones occupied just enough for me to squeeze in a few bites myself. If all else fails, they also have each other to keep occupied. Unfortunately for Mase, that doesn’t always work out in his favour!

Fashionkins // Romping Around

Rompers and jumpsuits have always been a staple in Carter’s wardrobe—as previously shown here—they’re an excellent layering piece. I’m so delighted to have recently added this “Happy Romper” to Carter’s wardrobe. Comfort always comes first when it comes to dressing my boys, but that doesn’t mean you have to trade style for ease or vice versa. This hooded romper is made of lightweight organic French Terry and is great for year round wear. Non-restrictive and just right for indoor or outdoor, at home or out in the world—I never feel guilty having Carter in this romper all day. When winter gets hard on me and I feel like I can no longer bear the sweaters, scarves, hats, and coats. So, I go for the tee! We spend the day cozy at home and do not wear any winter clothes that day! It is our “winter detox” in a way, and I personally find it very helpful for me and my children. We can pair it with various activities, like painting sunshine, or decorate our living room with cutout stars and watch a movie “under the stars”, or lay the blankets pretending we are at the beach… The list can go on and on and only your children’s imagination is a limit! If you also feel like winter blues are catching up on you, try it! Pull out your spring/summer wardrobe and pretend it’s 80F!

I Love Love, therefore, I Love Valentine’s Day! I have been giving my husband ‘hints’ for my Valentine Gift all week, which also sent me on a search for a Valentine Gift for the Love of My Life – yes my son! My son fills our family’s lives with Love and Happiness everyday; and Valentine’s Day is the perfect day to remind him how Lucky we are to have him in our lives! Every Love is unique and special, especially Love between a parent and child, so I have pulled together some of my favorite Valentine Gifts for your child that say “I Love You” in their own unique way!

Copyright © 2023 · Babiekins Magazine | A Trendsetting Kids' Fashion Magazine and Online Community for Parents and Children Alike · Since the Southern California birth of Babiekins in 2010, the magazine has grown from into an internationally-recognized print publication with a global circulation and now a thriving online community. We are more than a kids’ fashion magazine. We search everywhere for inspiration, and go beyond trends to bring you fashion, style, decor, design, books, DIY, parties, and playthings. Our readers look to us to keep up with the best and most up-to-date concepts in the children’s market worldwide. We have an eye for quirk. We’re high-fashion, but we value whimsy over tradition. Playful childhood is more important to us than making kids into copycat adults. We believe life is beautiful, life is valuable, and life changes when you see it through the eyes of a child. We seek to transcend skin color, language and zip codes and bring out the real, wild, magical creativity inherent in every child. And behind Babiekins is an optimistic team of mothers-turned-editors, working from home, often with our own little babiekins climbing on, under and around the desks. We want to encourage you, and challenge you to see something different — something special — in yourself and in this world we all share. Welcome to Babiekins!
