How many books do we all buy for our kids? Quite a few, right? Does anybody write their kids’ name inside the cover? I know we don’t. But we should. And you know what looks a lot cooler than just scribbling your kid’s name on the inside? A bookplate. The bookplate is a lost art. I’m not sure why. There is a Society of Bookplate Collectors out there. There are even blogs. There is a good number of fine designs on Etsy that I found. You can choose from something traditional or something cute and kids oriented. There are stickers that you write a nemae in, or there are rubber stamps. Either way, i think their time has returned. It’s time to start caring for our books! Give them the decency of showing everyone who they belong to. Make sure they don’t end up on someone else’s shelves. I lean towards the traditional ones. Maybe a coat of arms and some gothic type would look nice. But I do think I am going to have to design my own. I did go to art school, anyway. Check out the nice selection of bookplates here.
