Anna is at her happiest when tearing up the water on a 5′ surf board. At just 13, her surf accolades are really mounting up. She’s certainly showing the boys how it’s done. I had a chat with Anna to find out more about her style on and off the water.
Hey Anna, how did you get into surfing?
When I was around 5 years old, I would watch my dad and my older sister surf, which made me want to join them. Until this day, I love surfing with my family.
Surfing is obviously a huge part of who you are, I’m sure when competing you need to feel comfortable, but do you also look for surf gear that reflects your personality and have fun with it?
Yes, I like surf gear that reflects my personality both in and out of the water.
And, when you’re not on the water? What do you like to do the most when you’re not surfing?
When there are no waves I am often skurfing behind the boat, crabbing in the creek behind our house. Playing soccer, skateboarding or playing my trumpet or piano.
I love the outdoors, fishing, camping and backyard bonfires.
You have great street style, is this from the sports you enjoy influencing what you like to wear? Or, is it just the style you gravitate to?
I think both, the style I like reflect the sports I enjoy doing, especially surfing. I love to wear colorful pants. Tank tops and jeans mainly with flip flops or tennis shoes. I always just like to be in my bikini when I’m at the beach.
You’ve been doing some modeling. Do you like to link that with your surfing? Or, is modeling something you’d like to keep separate?
I modeled one time, it was when I just got into surfing for a clothing store called Chico’s. It was a lot of fun. If I ever get another opportunity I would like to link it to surfing.
Excellent, so where are your favorite places to shop?
I am not much of a shopper but when I do it usually involves various surf shops while competing in various places. I also enjoy Dick’s Sporting Goods.
And, what’s coming up next for you Anna?
I am looking forward to going to my first surf expo with one of my current local sponsors Salt2Sand, with the hopes to getting more sponsors. I will also be competing in ESA – Mid Atlantic Regionals. I’ll hopefully do well enough to advance to Eastern’s again. I’m playing my trumpet in a Winterfest Band and will be auditioning for District Honor Band and All State Band. In the spring I’ll be playing soccer for my school.
Wow, exciting! Thank you so much for chatting with me, have a fantastic holidays and we wish you all the best with your upcoming competitions.
