I love love and I heart hearts, which is one of the many reasons I am so excited to share my love of love and hearts with my babiekin this Valentine’s Day. Whether hearts are on a whimsical t-shirt, a tutu skirt, a plush toy, shoes, decor or a doll’s play-tent a graphic heart print says I Love You in a fresh and fun way! This Season I am loving heart prints and think you can wear them even past Valentine’s Day because Love is something to share everyday; isn’t it?

LIL’ STYLEKINS :: Stop & Smell the Roses

By Gina Munsey, Senior Editor Leave a Comment

As mamas, we’re busy. There’s no doubt about that. In any given day, we’re running this way and that, cleaning up messes, soothing skinned knees, taking care of errands, answering the phone, reading the same book for the thousandth time and rushing to get to appointments on time. And everything takes longer when your sidekicks are wee people.

But then I saw the above photo last night on Instagram, and it struck me. What if I truly saw my surroundings through the eyes of a child? How much more beauty and awe would there be in each day!

I couldn’t stop thinking about this, so I emailed Erin, who took these photos of her daughter Phoebe. “The flowers were just outside a local grocer’s, Metropolitan Market,” she told me. “There are lots of opportunities for wonder and beauty in our everyday life, and slowing down to Phoebe’s pace helps me recognize them and stop to appreciate them.”

Erin practices slowing down to her daughter’s pace when it comes to clothing, too. She lets Phoebe “have as much influence as possible over her clothes”, by laying out two or three choices and letting Phoebe pick what she wants to wear. “It makes her happier about them, and also it makes getting dressed easier (even though it does take longer).”

For their mama-daughter outing to Metropolitan Market, Phoebe wore:

STRAW HAT: From H&M, bought on clearance over the winter for $1.50
VINTAGE BLUE GINGHAM DRESS:  From an Instagram shop, purchased cheaply because it needed mending
WHITE CARDIGAN: Cherokee, hand-me-down
TIGHTS: Old Navy, thrifted for around 60 cents
RED MARY JANES: Cherokee, thrifted for about $4
NECKLACE: One of Erin’s, a star on a simple chain
BASKET: Thrifted. (“She just grabbed that on the way out and wanted her cat in it. We use that basket when we go on nature walks.”)
CORDUROY CAT:  Jelly Cat

Valentine’s Day is in just a couple weeks and is such a fun little  holiday for the kids.  Making those sweet little mailboxes at school to collect a note from each friend was always something I so looked forward to on February 14 as a kid.  I found a few looks that are just perfect for the sweetest holiday of all.  The first two are cute and hip. The seconds are a little bit rocker and the third looks are dapper and simply adorable.  Do you dress your kid up special for Valentine’s Day?  Have a wonderful weekend!

Copyright © 2023 · Babiekins Magazine | A Trendsetting Kids' Fashion Magazine and Online Community for Parents and Children Alike · Since the Southern California birth of Babiekins in 2010, the magazine has grown from into an internationally-recognized print publication with a global circulation and now a thriving online community. We are more than a kids’ fashion magazine. We search everywhere for inspiration, and go beyond trends to bring you fashion, style, decor, design, books, DIY, parties, and playthings. Our readers look to us to keep up with the best and most up-to-date concepts in the children’s market worldwide. We have an eye for quirk. We’re high-fashion, but we value whimsy over tradition. Playful childhood is more important to us than making kids into copycat adults. We believe life is beautiful, life is valuable, and life changes when you see it through the eyes of a child. We seek to transcend skin color, language and zip codes and bring out the real, wild, magical creativity inherent in every child. And behind Babiekins is an optimistic team of mothers-turned-editors, working from home, often with our own little babiekins climbing on, under and around the desks. We want to encourage you, and challenge you to see something different — something special — in yourself and in this world we all share. Welcome to Babiekins!
