Why Wait For A Trip To Paris?

By Amy Carson 1 Comment

Here in Houston there are so many cute French cafes. The girls dressed in the new SS19 collection from Moque and we set off to “Sweet Paris” to enjoy some afternoon crepes and hot cocoa. There, we found some springtime joie de vivre.

Fashionkins // A Day in Paris

By Julie Martin, Contributor Leave a Comment

What can you say about Paris? It has a magic all it’s own and an energy, ease, and artfulness that can hardly be matched. On a gorgeous Fall day with a soft breeze, I set out to walk around central Paris with 4 little girls and some fantastic fashion. It didn’t matter that they spoke no English and I spoke no French. We held hands and laughed and had a blast! I think being French means you are just born with fierce modeling skills. From the regal doors at every building to serene fountains and layers of history in miles of old stone……. Paris is hopelessly enchanting!

Travelkins // Je t’aime Paris

By Debbie Jovel, Contributor Leave a Comment

A few weekends ago our little family took a road trip to Paris. Being an American who recently relocated to Düsseldorf, Germany, I can hardly believe I am saying this myself : a road trip to Paris! I must admit Paris was a lot of fun with a toddler (even though it rained the entire weekend we were there).

We stayed in the Saint-Germain-des-Pres Quarter, an area with everything – restaurants, cafes and shops. It is also close to the Louvre Museum and the Luxembourg Gardens, where my son had a blast splashing in rain puddles; luckily we remembered to bring a change of clothes. We also discovered the Left Bank promenade called the Berges de Seine (Banks of the Seine) a 1.5-mile pedestrian walkway with edible and floating gardens, patches of local plants and innovative areas for babiekins and their parents to play and relax. We ended our weekend with a fabulous diner at the famous cafe, Le Deux Magot, where my son ate a whole loaf of French Bread… when in Paris!

Simple but sophisticated, navy is the secret of “la Parisienne”. And the secret of little Parisiennes too.

Travelkins :: Discoveries in Paris

There’s nothing quite like the feeling and sound of the wheels of your stroller hitting the cobblestone pavement in Paris.  I fell hard in love. Every morning, we would wake up, stroll down the bustling little town of Le Marais where we would go down and start with our morning ritual of croissant and coffee..Three is such a fun age to travel with.  They ask questions.  They take it in.  We get to explore together.

My son would beg me to take him to the park and I never refuse especially while traveling.  Parks are where you can people watch.  Playgrounds do not lie.  There is something really pure and honest about watching a mom and child at a playground that allows you to take a further glimpse into their culture and lifestyle.  That morning, I witnessed two little sisters trying to sing in harmony to their mom.  On another side of the playground were kids playing with old school tops.  Oh how fun are those things!  Where do I even get one back home?  I spy on a mother and son in matching New Balances.  She is so effortlessly cool.  Her Parisian understated elegance makes me want to become her best friend.

I quickly took note that New Balances are popular shoes in Paris and that children are almost always strolled around in Maclaren strollers.  Most of them don’t look perfect, they look worn and used.   I also took account that there wasn’t anyone holding a coffee on the go like most Americans do as our daily routine. An instant gratification of a starbucks cup in your hand sound familiar right? Sure, I did see the occasional to-go espressos, but they were a last minute option in which they were placed in clear cups with out tops or anything.  This was when I realized…this is it.  This is what makes people different here, is that they appreciate moments longer.  Coffee is meant to be drunk sitting down amidst a conversation or a read. Clothes are meant to be worn over years and years and not because they are trending but because they have never let you down and they become apart of you.   Entertainment is meant to be seen before your eyes and not on a computer screen and flowers are meant to be smelt on the way to your destination.

I asked myself, why do we fix or reinvent things if it’s not broken?  All those old carousels around the Eiffel Tower that go 2 miles per hour, they still bring children so much joy.  The slower it went  also meant that the longer I could spend spotting my son’s face as it came around and the fluttering in my heart would extend to a point where I couldn’t breath anymore.  No words could bare to come out.  Just my laugh, and a big stretched out smile electrified by gratitude…These are the moments we live for.  Life is just that much more richer in Paris when wealth is measured in memories.

SLEEPYKINS :: A Rabbit Corner in Paris

By Gina Munsey, Senior Editor Leave a Comment

I love peeking into people’s homes, don’t you? Something about seeing how others create a sense of warmth and family through décor has a very universal appeal. And spaces created for little ones are especially inviting — and, no big surprise — a big favorite of ours here at Babiekins Magazine.

Helena, a French reader, sent us photos of the cozy grey and plum area she put together for her 3-month-old son, Yves.

She tells us, “We live in Paris – Montmartre in a little apartment as do many people here, so I could not create a ‘room’, just a baby corner. When I discovered the fabulous fabric with little rabbits I knew it was the perfect one for my little son, my little rabbit.”

We couldn’t agree more, Helena! What a terrific example of beautiful small-space living.

Henri’s Walk to Paris

By Gina Munsey, Senior Editor Leave a Comment

You may not be familiar with American graphic designer Saul Bass — but I bet you’d instantly recognize his work! He’s the one who designed those famous green profiles in the Girl Scouts logo, the instantly-recognizable hand in the United Way logo, and more! Today’s book, Henri’s Walk to Paris, happens to be the only children’s book he ever illustrated. Re-released this year for the first time since the 1960s, it’s a really fun story about Henri “who does not live in Paris, but wishes he did.”

Now what would a story about walking to Paris be without a pair of bottes de pluie?

Copyright © 2022 · Babiekins Magazine | A Trendsetting Kids' Fashion Magazine and Online Community for Parents and Children Alike · Since the Southern California birth of Babiekins in 2010, the magazine has grown from into an internationally-recognized print publication with a global circulation and now a thriving online community. We are more than a kids’ fashion magazine. We search everywhere for inspiration, and go beyond trends to bring you fashion, style, decor, design, books, DIY, parties, and playthings. Our readers look to us to keep up with the best and most up-to-date concepts in the children’s market worldwide. We have an eye for quirk. We’re high-fashion, but we value whimsy over tradition. Playful childhood is more important to us than making kids into copycat adults. We believe life is beautiful, life is valuable, and life changes when you see it through the eyes of a child. We seek to transcend skin color, language and zip codes and bring out the real, wild, magical creativity inherent in every child. And behind Babiekins is an optimistic team of mothers-turned-editors, working from home, often with our own little babiekins climbing on, under and around the desks. We want to encourage you, and challenge you to see something different — something special — in yourself and in this world we all share. Welcome to Babiekins!
