Can you believe Mother’s Day is almost here? If your household is as crazy as mine, your babiekins will be crafting Mother’s Day Goodies this weekend. My favorite gifts from my babiekin are ones that are hand made by him with LOVE. Here is a round-up of last minute Mother’s Day crafts that are simple, downloadable and say I LOVE YOU!

Craftykins // “Star Spangled” Fruit Wand

“Oh say can you see, some fruit on a stick” ……
Looking for a last minute Fourth of July craft or to jazz up some food for guests this Fourth of July? Than look no further than the “Star Spangled” fruit wand. Or Kabob. Whichever you would like to call it!

With one quick trip to the grocery store, I was able to purchase everything I needed to make these fabulous fruit wands.
You can even get a star cookie cutter from the dollar store.

Here is how you do it :
+ Take your watermelon and make thin slices so that you can use the cookie cuter to pop out the watermelon stars.
+ Wash your berries and start making your berry patterns by pushing the berries onto the stick.
+ Throw in a Marshmallow (that was my “white” for “red, “white” an “blue” ) or not. My kids went straight for the Marshmallow first, then the fruit.
+ Endless pattern possibilities! No two fruit kabobs can be alike!
+ Enjoy!

Craftykins // Holiday DIY & Decor

If you are looking for quick, fun , easy , and cheap ways to decorate your house this holiday….. then you have come to the right place! As a busy working Momma with two toddlers and a newborn, time and money is precious. I wanted to share a few ways that I was able to Ho Ho Ho my home without taking up too much time, and without breaking the bank.

1. Make Your Own Garland.

We made stars out of pipe cleaners and tied them to string. You could tie anything to string. Hand made snowflakes to store bought shapes and objects.

2. Wrap it up!

Decorating with Gift Wrap….We wrapped the inside of the faux chalkboard fireplace in the girl’s room. You can use it to wrap over doors, framed wall art, to cover the tops of tables, or even cut into shapes and put on the wall!

3. Put a Wreath on it!

I bought this real Boxwood Wreath for under $10.00 from Trader Joe’s. I added an ornament from Target and some Ribbon ( left over from my wedding years ago, awwwww) and TaDaa! A special wreath for your front door.
If you are an advanced crafter, you could even make your own wreaths. You could use store bought items to make a wreath or found and foraged items from your back yard! I used real Boxwood to make mini Boxwood wreaths for all of our windows and some walls. It definitely took longer to make these than I wanted but the end result was totally worth it. I also threw in a cute little photo of my son Ethan.

4. No Gift Wrap ? No Problem!

Wrap gifts with paper items around your home. I used a Trader Joe’s paper grocery bag and used/old “stendig ” calendar pages. Top them off with something fun , like some free greenery from your yard to some store bought pom-poms and then you got yourself some fun gifts from re-purposed items and paper!

5. Throw it up! Some garland that is.

Real or fake…. it doesn’t matter. If you want to get fancy, wrap it in lights! Also, enjoy a pic of some cuties.

6.Christmas Past ….

Decorate by framing or displaying past Holiday photos or new photos if you have them already. They can even just be winter photos. I hope you all enjoyed these little tips. Wishing you and yours a very happy Holiday Season! Happy Crafting! LOVE , The Kipphuts

Craftykins // Animal Tic Tac Toe To Go

This fun jungle inspired Animal Tic Tac Toe To Go is perfect to pack for a summer road trip, park dates, or even an indoor rainy afternoon. Aiden and Maddie loved playing together and were so good at taking turns.

Get creative and use any toys your kids can’t put down like Lego pieces or mini cars or forgo the toys all together and use what you find in nature (flowers, pinecones, or pebbles). Maybe try playing using cookies or packed snacks (yum… but don’t eat them until you’re done playing!) Carry this Tic Tac Toe To Go blanket with you all summer long (I know I will be) and have fun!

Materials:
-outdoor fabric (I chose a fun animal print)
-ribbon (make sure the colour/pattern contrasts with the fabric)
-small toy animals (ten in total)
-paint (two different colours – you can use acrylic or spray paint)
-paint brush
-scissors
-glue gun (or fabric glue)

Step 1:
Cut the fabric into a large square.

Step 2:
Cut four pieces of ribbon that are all the same length.

Step 3:
Place the ribbon in a “hashtag” shape and glue using glue gun.

Step 4:
Paint the toy animals – five in one colour and five in the other colour.

Step 5:
Ta da! Time to play – who wins?

A few Christmases ago, we were with friends that always handmade all their own decorations. Together we ended up making a giant red, green and white paper chain that went around the entire room. From that moment on , I vowed to try and make holiday decor instead of purchasing them at a store . It cuts back on costs, storage space and is fun to make! Plus you have the added memories of making them. The Fourth of July in the US is upon us, and the girl’s and I came up with a super cute Red, White, and Blue Abstract Shape Garland. No need for perfect shapes, the fun is cutting out random squares and rectangles. A perfect project for your little ones. All you need is glue, string and construction paper. We also made a “crown” with some left over scraps that the girl’s took turns wearing. We enjoyed celebrating a little early in the girl’s room with our new super fun and colorful Independence Day decor! Happy Fourth of July!

Craftykins // Mini “Best Dad” Father’s Day Succulent Trophy

Present Dad with a mini “BEST DAD” succulent trophy this Father’s Day. This super easy, and super cute Father’s Day DIY is a fun way to tell dad how awesome he really is.

Materials:
-mini trophy (from party store)
-spray paint (choose Dad’s favourite colour)
-paint pen (I used white so it would show up)
-soil or rocks (get ready to get messy)
-succulent (hardest part is to choose just one!)

Step 1:
Spray trophy using spray paint. Make sure to cover the entire trophy. Let dry.

Step 2:
Write something fun on the trophy using a paint pen. Feel free to decorate however you think Dad will love it. Let dry.

Step 3:
Place soil and/or rocks into the trophy. Fill almost all the way to the brim (leave approximately 1/4 inch). Plant succulent.

Step 4:
Ta-da! Hope Dad loves it! How could he not when it was made with love.
Bonus: Write up an award certificate, which can double as a card.

Craftykins // National Donut Day Trinket Boxes

This week we celebrate National Donut Day, and who does not want to celebrate a day dedicated to donuts!? I know I do. I will definitely be eating one (or two, or three)! My favourite donut is a classic dipped donut with sprinkles, which was the inspiration for this DIY Donut Trinket Box. It’s great for the little ones to store their favourite mini toys, candies, or hair ties in.

Materials:
-round “paper mache” box (from craft store)
-paint (brown = chocolate or white = vanilla)
-glitter paper (I used a variety of pinks, white and silver)
-beads (sprinkles)
-scissors
-paint brush
-pencil
-tacky glue
-glitter glue (optional)

Step 1:
Paint the box (use brown paint to make a chocolate donut or white paint to a make a vanilla donut). Let dry.

Step 2:
To make the icing, use the box lid as a template for the outer circle and trace. Use a smaller circle (I used the paint bottle) as a template for the inner circle and trace.

Step 3:
Cut out the inner circle line and cut a squiggly edge (using the outer circle line as a guide).

Step 4:
Decorate! Try using different types of beads, glitter glue, or anything else you can imagine.

Step 5:
Glue the icing to the lid.

Step 6:
Ta-da! Fill with treasures.

Craftykins // DIY Springtime Binoculars

Springtime is here! Flowers are blooming and animals are out and about. There is a beautiful Dogwood tree in front of the house and nestled on a branch is a very large bird’s nest with a Momma bird. My girls and I have been watching it carefully, awaiting the baby birds. These curious toddlers have also taken interest in the flowers high and low. A great way to focus on the beauty happening all around is by making fun Binoculars for your little ones. All you need to make fun and funky Binoculars are used toilet paper rolls, construction/scrapbook paper, yarn , and your favorite items to adorn them with. We used feathers and Pom-Pom garland inspired by the gorgeous birds we have been seeing. A hot glue to piece it all together will work best, but with patience you could use regular craft glue. I have made a lot of crafts for the kids before, but this one seems to be by far the most popular! Happy Spring and Happy Sightseeing!
