Healthykins // Q+A With Audrey Sands

Healthykins || Q+A With Audrey Sands
After having my third boy recently — yes, I have THREE boys! — I decided it was time to really get healthy, not only for myself but also for my family. So I started training with Audrey Sands, a fitness instructor who just has such a passion for helping others. We train at the Trampoline Park in Murrieta, and then do additional sessions of boot camp throughout the week. This lifestyle change has inspired a new outlook on life, and is the driving force behind the new Healthykins series we’re introducing today. My hope is that this series will inspire you to think differently about what you eat, and help you on your path to live a healthier and happier lifestyle. In this space, we’ll be sharing fun ways to get outside and moving, activities you can do with your children, and recipes which are clever and cute as well as delicious and healthy. If you’re in Riverside County, California and want to join us for boot camp, email Audrey for information – audreysands22@gmail.com . And, we want to know — what’s the biggest challenge you’re facing on your path to raising little healthykins? Let us know in the comments!
Healthykins || Q+A With Audrey Sands

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself? Your family?
I was born and raised in Phoenix, AZ, and graduated from Arizona State University. My husband John and I have been married for the past 10 years and we have two wonderful boys. Micah is our athletic and incredibly loving 8 year old! And Luke is our energetic, and skilled “Lego Master” 5 year old! We have been living in Murrieta for over 10 years. We love being active and playing together as a family! Carlsbad beach is our favorite spot to be on the weekends!

How has being a mother changed your outlook on eating and being healthy?
When I became a mother I began to rethink the way I look at food and nutrition. I became aware of my responsibility to care for my two boys and wanted the best for them. I want to teach and model for my children how to eat clean so they can pass on that legacy to their children.

What is your go to meal?
Sweet potatoes cut up like french fries and baked in the oven and chicken seasoned with garlic, and onions.

What is something you don’t leave the house without?
I don’t leave the house without my cooler bag which is packed with: Quest bars, baked sweet potatoes, cut up veggies, protein smoothies and WATER!

You’re stuck home all day and can’t get to the gym. What are some easy ways to incorporate exercise into the daily routine of play, laundry, cooking and cleaning?
I would put music on and have a dance party with my boys while cleaning and cooking, that always works up a good sweat!

What are your top five must listen to tunes while working out?
One republic – counting stars, kelly clarkson- stronger, Gwen stefani- what are you waiting for, Fireflight-unbreakable, The Band Perry- done

Any recommendations for someone just starting out with a workout routine?
Don’t over complicate things, remember it’s about getting your heart rate up! Push yourself, you should be out of breathe! Work on getting faster, going lower, and lifting heavier!

What’s your favorite ab exercise?
Favorite ab exercise would have to be plank jacks- I feel plank jacks in my core and in my entire body, my arms, legs, and shoulders!

Advice you would give someone else struggling with loosing weight or getting on a healthier track?
Reassess what you are putting in your body, remember You Are What You Eat! Challenge and really push yourself in your daily workouts, make sure you are getting your heart rate up, drink plenty of water and get enough sleep, people often overlook the importance of rest!

Copyright © 2022 · Babiekins Magazine | A Trendsetting Kids' Fashion Magazine and Online Community for Parents and Children Alike · Since the Southern California birth of Babiekins in 2010, the magazine has grown from into an internationally-recognized print publication with a global circulation and now a thriving online community. We are more than a kids’ fashion magazine. We search everywhere for inspiration, and go beyond trends to bring you fashion, style, decor, design, books, DIY, parties, and playthings. Our readers look to us to keep up with the best and most up-to-date concepts in the children’s market worldwide. We have an eye for quirk. We’re high-fashion, but we value whimsy over tradition. Playful childhood is more important to us than making kids into copycat adults. We believe life is beautiful, life is valuable, and life changes when you see it through the eyes of a child. We seek to transcend skin color, language and zip codes and bring out the real, wild, magical creativity inherent in every child. And behind Babiekins is an optimistic team of mothers-turned-editors, working from home, often with our own little babiekins climbing on, under and around the desks. We want to encourage you, and challenge you to see something different — something special — in yourself and in this world we all share. Welcome to Babiekins!
