Generous Visits

By Abby Kail, Contributor Leave a Comment

Somehow, not only for Christmas

But all the long year through,

The joy that you give to others

Is the joy that comes back to you.

And the more you spend in blessing

The poor and lonely and sad,

The more of your heart’s possessing

Returns to make you glad.  – John Greenleaf Whittier

Our niece came for a visit.  What a treat!  Our oldest daughter (and 2nd son – the twins) and she are only 15 days apart.  So what to do?  We decided to see some of the local “hot spots”.  It was early enough in the morning to catch the fog over the river but also too early for our oldest two sons to join us.  Such a joy to watch these little ones roam around the dock looking at the fish, the ducks and the train that went overhead.  Children make memories anytime and anywhere.  Truly, they find joy in the simplest things and what a treat to watch them explore God’s creation.  So many things I pass by day to day but not these little ones.  They would explore all day if I allowed it.  Maybe the do explore all day anyway, right?  Following the docks we ventured to a local log cabin – a historic site in our hometown.    We were able to look through the windows at the log cabin and life size dollhouse next to the cabin.  No one wanted to leave.  I learn each day from these little ones – slow down, find joy wherever you can, meticulously explore God’s creation.  Our children are gracious teachers.  Laughter, smiles and fun galore – a generous visit to say the least.

10 new toes

By Abby Kail, Contributor Leave a Comment

Our 7th wonder entered the world on September 30th.  Welcome little Evangelina.   You are already deeply loved.   You are already fought over.  You are already fitting in.

We left our home at 3:48 am and quickly headed up the hill to the hospital.  Upon our arrival to the hospital, you weren’t quite ready.  I asked if I could go home.  Within 45 minutes my water broke and within another 45 minutes I was ready to push.  I almost broke your Pop’s hand but a painful 15 minutes comes and goes quite quickly.  Perfect timing – 5:43 am, right before your siblings would wake for school.  You were on FaceTime within minutes of entering the world.  Welcome to the world sweet girl.  Your 10 new toes are a wonderful addition to our family.

“No other part of the world’s work is of such supreme difficulty, delicacy and importance, as that of parents in the right bringing up of their children.” Charlotte Mason

Reflection

By Abby Kail, Contributor Leave a Comment

“No doubt the best and happiest exercise of the senses springs out of a loving familiarity with the world of nature.” – Charlotte Mason

Visiting the docks.  Imagining whale sized fish under our feet.  Watching the sun go down on the water.  Nature is filled with ever changing life and WONDER.  Reflect on it.

Bloomin’ Good Time

By Abby Kail, Contributor Leave a Comment

Summer is coming to an end.  Wait, Spring and Summer and all that was in between is coming to an end.  The little ones had their year turned upside down but they didn’t miss a beat.  It was difficult, to say the least, for many of us.  I’ve always dreamed of being the ultimate home-school Mom.  It was a must, top of my to-do list as a Mother – ABSOLUTELY.  This year gave me the opportunity – maybe not gave but dropped in my lap.  While my dreams weren’t exactly met and I realized my limits, there was so much more.  I grew with my children.  We bloomed.  I really dove into their learning habits and their hearts.  The “forced” time was a flowering of their personalities.  I will never get these days back.  Similar to a flower in all it’s beauty, it only lasts so long, never to be seen again.  I am grateful for this hardship and blessed to have these 7 little ones to nurture through this rugged life.  Also like a flower, it can withstand harsh and sunny weather, so withstood these little ones.

In honor of our blooming, a fun shoot that called for floral headpieces and beautiful designs.

On Island Time

By Gaylin Howbert, Contributor Leave a Comment

Days spent soaking up the sun’s rays.  Salt dried on the skin from early morning surf sessions. Forests full of tall trees that have seen much now are blanketed in vines that hang from their branches covering the earth. Deep midnight blues turn to shades of turquoise into translucent as the ocean comes to kiss the sand. This is island time where the Tradewinds fill the air with the sweet fragrance of plumeria blooms. The days are warm and end in a dramatic watercolor like painting in the sky of bright pinks, oranges, and purples to say , ” Aloha “,  to another day.

Life Is Better On The Farm

By Amy Carson Leave a Comment

The Pandemic has us all staying closer to home. While this is a bummer, the experience is not without silver linings. The girls have been looking for nearby places to visit, and in the process they discovered a hidden gem. We met some local farmers and got to spend some time among their flock.

Copyright © 2021 · Babiekins Magazine | A Trendsetting Kids' Fashion Magazine and Online Community for Parents and Children Alike · Since the Southern California birth of Babiekins in 2010, the magazine has grown from into an internationally-recognized print publication with a global circulation and now a thriving online community. We are more than a kids’ fashion magazine. We search everywhere for inspiration, and go beyond trends to bring you fashion, style, decor, design, books, DIY, parties, and playthings. Our readers look to us to keep up with the best and most up-to-date concepts in the children’s market worldwide. We have an eye for quirk. We’re high-fashion, but we value whimsy over tradition. Playful childhood is more important to us than making kids into copycat adults. We believe life is beautiful, life is valuable, and life changes when you see it through the eyes of a child. We seek to transcend skin color, language and zip codes and bring out the real, wild, magical creativity inherent in every child. And behind Babiekins is an optimistic team of mothers-turned-editors, working from home, often with our own little babiekins climbing on, under and around the desks. We want to encourage you, and challenge you to see something different — something special — in yourself and in this world we all share. Welcome to Babiekins!
