Folk & Flora Farmstead Kitchen Details

By Priscila Barros, Editor-in-Chief Leave a Comment

Ah, It’s been some time since I have popped in to give some farmhouse progress. It has been a lot of work but we are finally getting to the kitchen! YAY!

We have changed this house completely! Here are the before images to prove it.

Deep red walls – YUCK! Since we moved the stairs we had a wide open space to work with. We added a pantry ( with shiplap from Metrie and DIY shelves) and put in new windows and sliding glass door!

View out the kitchen window. We can’t wait to put up a modern fence, barn and get some cows there too!

We went with matte black cabinets from IKEA and black stainless steel appliances. I am super excited to see how they come out and how they look once we add hardware!

We will add subway tile all the way up to the ceiling and added a pot filler from Signature Hardware – that I’m SO excited to use. Isn’t it pretty?

We will add open shelving on the top and no cabinets to keep the farmhouse look going throughout the house.

For countertops, we decided to do DIY concrete countertops from Zcounterform. We went with an extra white which I think will look amazing on top of the matte black cabinets!

I will be doing a detailed post on how we did it (including a video) and before and after pictures!

We are also doing a custom vent for the kitchen.

and we are using two farmhouse sinks from IKEA and gorgeous faucets from VIGO.

We are pouring the concrete countertops tomorrow so I will be back soon with some information and pictures!

If you know me (Editor-in-Chief Priscila Barros) at all, you know I love a good interiors project. I was thrilled to recently help a sweet family renovate their little boy’s room. They’d bought a farmhouse with good bones and great natural light, so all we really had to do is source some cute accessories.

I discussed with the homeowner, Rachel, what she likes, and then made a mood board. I sent over inspiration, ideas, items and more — and would talk with her through text and email to make sure we could both put our heads together together to make a sweet space for her son.

Rachel did an awesome job getting a few extra odd and ends, too, to bring out the room’s personality. I think we nailed, it don’t you?

How beautiful is this black fish scale tile from Mercury Mosaics? I am completely obsessed with it and love how well it goes with the oversized magnolia flower wallpaper from Drop It Modern. When designing the rooms in the farmhouse I wanted to make sure that we made the rooms feel really modern. I want a mix of metals, modern lights with touches of old in there too.

This bathroom is right off a door that leads to a patio and will also be our “mudroom.” Since we are re doing the whole house we don’t have an official laundry room but I thought it would be cool to stick the washer and dryer under the stairs.

We still need to put molding around the half bathroom and this week we are adding this beautiful barn door (in black!) from  Artisan Hardware.

The light in the mudroom is from Bellacor and is called Loring Natural Brass Six-Light Chandelier . It’s the perfect modern light for the space!

Copyright © 2023 · Babiekins Magazine | A Trendsetting Kids' Fashion Magazine and Online Community for Parents and Children Alike · Since the Southern California birth of Babiekins in 2010, the magazine has grown from into an internationally-recognized print publication with a global circulation and now a thriving online community. We are more than a kids’ fashion magazine. We search everywhere for inspiration, and go beyond trends to bring you fashion, style, decor, design, books, DIY, parties, and playthings. Our readers look to us to keep up with the best and most up-to-date concepts in the children’s market worldwide. We have an eye for quirk. We’re high-fashion, but we value whimsy over tradition. Playful childhood is more important to us than making kids into copycat adults. We believe life is beautiful, life is valuable, and life changes when you see it through the eyes of a child. We seek to transcend skin color, language and zip codes and bring out the real, wild, magical creativity inherent in every child. And behind Babiekins is an optimistic team of mothers-turned-editors, working from home, often with our own little babiekins climbing on, under and around the desks. We want to encourage you, and challenge you to see something different — something special — in yourself and in this world we all share. Welcome to Babiekins!
