There’s magic to be explored on Halloween night. The excitement of dressing up in whatever your heart desires and prancing around the neighborhood in the moonlight. Halloween lets us explore sides of our personality we wouldn’t normally get to expose. It’s spell casts over us every year and we relish in delight!

Fashionkins // An Afternoon with Sapling Child

On a rainy NYC afternoon, Lucas had a few of his adorable buddies over and we decided to play dress up with Sapling Child. Designed in Australia (and made in India from fair trade) from 100% organic cotton, I’m pretty smitten with the beautiful, whimsical designs and patterns for both boys and girls. Don’t get me started on the baby collection – the bubble suits…holy cuteness! They also recently launched a designer collaboration with the amazing celebrity mama Jaime King.

Sapling Child has pretty much nailed the perfect collection for the kiddos. Comfort with style. You can shop the entire collection here as well as follow along on Instagram for updates, new items, and seriously adorable kiddos.

Is there anything sweeter than plaid on kids? Add a tiger print into the mix and the combination equates to some serious fashion goodness. Lucas’ pants and denim shirt are from Agatha Cub. Their new Bodega Series just hit the shop and it is GOOD! Don’t say I didn’t warn you! I’m currently coveting the entire collection for Lucas. His tiger popupshop sweater is from Milk Bots. It reminds me of of the sophistication of Givenchy yet is still whimsical and playful.

Featurekins // Behind the Scenes with Boy + Girl

By Nicole Gonzalez, Contributor Leave a Comment

I had the opportunity to chat with Christine, founder and designer of Boy + Girl. The gorgeous collection is one of a kind. I have fallen head over heels with each design as well as the integrity of the brand. Here is what Christine had to say:

What inspired you to start boy + girl?

There are a lot of great women’s and menswear designers that I love and I wondered why there wasn’t something more like that for kids. I love textures and beautiful fabrics mixed with clean, minimalist design and I wanted to incorporate that for kidswear.

What is most important to you when sourcing your materials and fabric?

It’s a pretty natural process, every season I just grab what I love and from there I make a story. Materials are really the heart of the line. I really love natural fabrics, they wash great and they drape well so we use a lot of washed linens and cottons. Patterns and prints are always hard to find which is why this season we partnered with our cottons supplier to produce a custom organic stripe. Sustainability is at the heart of b+g so we strive to use organic fabrics and low-impact processes wherever we can.

How would you describe the child who wears boy + girl?

Definitely boy+girl has a California, west coast vibe. Boy is more rooted in surf and skate, we do a lot of cut-off shorts and bajas. Mostly soft knit terrys and fleece for him so he can run around and be active! Girl is a bit more feminine, boho. She’s a bit more european – those classic cuts that are timeless but not stiff.

What/who was the inspiration behind your Fall 2014 collection?

Fall/Holiday is always an interesting one for us since we are based here in sunny venice. I like it to be warm but not dark, the duality of using vibrant colors during a ‘dark’ season is interesting I think. So we gravitated towards and landed on some beautiful organic knits that are soft and cozy in fun, easy silhouettes such as bubble dresses and harem pants. We also sourced a flannel that is made in Portugal, I think they are a beautiful interpretation of modern almost digital looking prints.

Presenting a fab collection I have fallen in love with that I am sure Babiekins readers will too, DREAM SEEKER by Feather Drum – an eclectic range that evokes the spirit of 70’s Woodstock through its signature flared teepee pants, felt floppy hat, warm earthy colour palette, tie-dye and bespoke prints. Capturing the love and peace that inspired a generation and the free nature of our happy little people.

Pure wool knits, soft and comfortable jersey, quality cottons and linen are the fine natural fabrics that make up the Dream Seeker Collection, a range which confirms the belief that any dream can come true if you work hard to catch it.

A refreshing blend of bespoke prints, bold shapes and quality fabrics. Feather drum is the dream child of Kelly-Lee, a designer whose days of innocence began in the UK, and whose wanderlust has taken her from London to Germany to Italy and now the warm, sandy beaches of Sydney’s Northern Beaches in Australia. Kelly-Lee has drawn inspiration from her life-long love of French design, her local environment and her natural bohemian style to produce this gorgeous range of quality garments that are fashion forward, sophisticated and fun to wear for free-spirited girls and boys.

Copyright © 2021 · Babiekins Magazine | A Trendsetting Kids' Fashion Magazine and Online Community for Parents and Children Alike · Since the Southern California birth of Babiekins in 2010, the magazine has grown from into an internationally-recognized print publication with a global circulation and now a thriving online community. We are more than a kids’ fashion magazine. We search everywhere for inspiration, and go beyond trends to bring you fashion, style, decor, design, books, DIY, parties, and playthings. Our readers look to us to keep up with the best and most up-to-date concepts in the children’s market worldwide. We have an eye for quirk. We’re high-fashion, but we value whimsy over tradition. Playful childhood is more important to us than making kids into copycat adults. We believe life is beautiful, life is valuable, and life changes when you see it through the eyes of a child. We seek to transcend skin color, language and zip codes and bring out the real, wild, magical creativity inherent in every child. And behind Babiekins is an optimistic team of mothers-turned-editors, working from home, often with our own little babiekins climbing on, under and around the desks. We want to encourage you, and challenge you to see something different — something special — in yourself and in this world we all share. Welcome to Babiekins!
