Unicorns may be imaginary creatures, but they are popping up on everything from apparel, to accessories and also on decor. Now is the time for your babiekins to be a Unicorn and to chase rainbows! I want to be a Unicorn, as I would like to believe in the fascinating myth of a horned horse…this round-up of goodies is so magical you too will believe and want to be Unicorns too.

There has been a crisp breeze in the air, which means one thing, outerwear weather is here. A new outerwear item that will have your babiekins skipping through town this fall, just like Little Red Riding Hood, is the cape. The cape is practical, warm and cozy while adding a dash of super hero “kapow” to your babiekins wardrobe. There’s just so much to love about capes this season.

Travelkins // A Secret Garden

By Donna Tweedale, Former Contributor Leave a Comment

Hidden within an old manor house estate lies a secret.  Over 200 years ago a young Lord transformed an area of his grounds into a romantic Swiss garden. A secret sanctuary that, it’s been said, was created to impress a Swiss love interest.

The true inspiration for its creation can’t be certain. But what can be, is it’s ability to draw you into the Victorian charm. The story. The mystery.

With vivid color, bold shapes and detail exploration lingers around every corner. Running around to the sound of trickling water and the calls of the roaming peacocks; this enchanted garden calls for an outfit with added drama.

DIY No Sew Flannel Poncho

By Priscila Barros, Editor-in-Chief 1 Comment

Colder weather is here and we are taking full advantage of it.  Since I live in Miami, cold weather is actually not so cold at all, but I take advantage by layering with lighter pieces of clothing. Ponchos are perfect to wear when the weather is starting to get a little cooler, but when it isn’t cold enough for heavy jackets and sweaters. When it comes to making clothing for my daughter, I like to keep it super simple. I’ll be making it even easier by showing you how I made this adorable poncho without a sewing machine!

Babiekins Magazine | Craftykins // DIY No Sew Poncho

Here’s what you’ll need:

1 yard fabric (I used flannel)
1 package of fusible bonding web (stitch witchery)
Fabric Scissors
Measuring Tape
Iron

Babiekins Magazine | Craftykins // DIY No Sew Poncho

First, cut your fabric. I cut a rectangle measuring 28″ x 26″ which would fit about a size 3 toddler. In order to figure out the size you would need to fit:

1. Measure your child’s arm span from wrist to wrist. This will be the width of your rectangle.
2. Measure the length from shoulder to hips. Double this number and add 2 inches. This will be the length of your rectangle.

Then, fold your fabric in half width-wise and cut your neck hole. Make sure that you cut it a little smaller than you want it to be because it will get bigger once you are finished.

Next, fold over each edge of the fabric to cover your bonding and iron for 10 seconds to “glue” your fabric down. You can fold over the fabric twice so that it doesn’t fray, but I kept it simple. When you get to the corners, cut the fabric and bonding at an angle and iron flat.

For the neck hole, cut your bonding in half length wise (so that your strips are thinner) and then cut out small pieces to curve around the hole. Iron the neck line flat. This part looks a little tricky but it’s simple once you get the hang of it.

Aaaand you’re done! This project took me less than thirty minutes to make and the draping is so lovely.

Copyright © 2023 · Babiekins Magazine | A Trendsetting Kids' Fashion Magazine and Online Community for Parents and Children Alike · Since the Southern California birth of Babiekins in 2010, the magazine has grown from into an internationally-recognized print publication with a global circulation and now a thriving online community. We are more than a kids’ fashion magazine. We search everywhere for inspiration, and go beyond trends to bring you fashion, style, decor, design, books, DIY, parties, and playthings. Our readers look to us to keep up with the best and most up-to-date concepts in the children’s market worldwide. We have an eye for quirk. We’re high-fashion, but we value whimsy over tradition. Playful childhood is more important to us than making kids into copycat adults. We believe life is beautiful, life is valuable, and life changes when you see it through the eyes of a child. We seek to transcend skin color, language and zip codes and bring out the real, wild, magical creativity inherent in every child. And behind Babiekins is an optimistic team of mothers-turned-editors, working from home, often with our own little babiekins climbing on, under and around the desks. We want to encourage you, and challenge you to see something different — something special — in yourself and in this world we all share. Welcome to Babiekins!
