A gem of the West, a city to always inspire – modern yet traditional, small yet so complete, a feast of all senses – San Francisco is an everlasting spring, never-ending dream, a backdrop to fashion inspiration and music for all senses.

Living in the eclectic small town of Joshua Tree, there’s not many activities specifically tailored for babies. But we’ve got no shortage of magical natural spaces, & luckily for me Prairie really enjoys spending time outdoors. She’ll often crawl to the door and bang on it, demanding to go play in the yard, so I like to joke that we live in nature’s sandbox. We’ve been packing her along for hikes since she was a tiny baby and so far she doesn’t mind riding in her carrier one bit, although she does like to take breaks to explore. The challenge for me is watching to make sure she doesn’t eat sand or crawl through a cactus! The key to desert dressing is light layers, they act as sun protection, and also you would be surprised how cold it can get here in the evenings and during the winter. These days, our main form of socializing is heading over to a friend’s house for dinner and maybe a campfire. We have a few friends here who operate these amazing bohemian Airbnbs, and it’s always a treat to visit one their inspirational spots. These pictures are of Prairie and I exploring the grounds of the Joshua Tree Casita (http://www.thejoshuatreehouse.com, @thejoshuatreehouse) so of course we had to dress the part in matching mama and me desert florals by Thief & Bandit (http://thiefandbandit.com, @thiefandbandit).

Travelkins // California Dreamin’

“I want to see the world.
Follow a map to its edges, and keep going. Forgo the plans.
Trust my instincts. Let my curiosity be my guide.
I want to change hemispheres. Sleep with unfamiliar stars.
And let the journey unfold before me.”-The Maptia Manifesto

This summer, June 2016, I took my two children on an adventure with me to California. We rented a minivan, and let spontaneity take its course. Every morning we woke up, and left the town we were in the day before, and continued on our journey, exploring California. Every night, we settled into some place new, a new hotel, a new airbnb, our new camping site. We didn’t book much, as a matter of fact, most mornings we didn’t know where we would be staying that night. We made new friends every where we went. We did whatever we wanted, whenever we wanted. We were FREE. We lived out of our suitcase, and our minivan.
We got lost. We got found. We wandered and explored many towns. We ran wild, and we got dirty. We embraced fear. We LIVED, we explored and we adventured. We breathed in new air, and new life. We, together, learned an entire new way of exploring the world. Most importantly, we learned how to embrace change and the unknown.

Copyright © 2022 · Babiekins Magazine | A Trendsetting Kids' Fashion Magazine and Online Community for Parents and Children Alike · Since the Southern California birth of Babiekins in 2010, the magazine has grown from into an internationally-recognized print publication with a global circulation and now a thriving online community. We are more than a kids’ fashion magazine. We search everywhere for inspiration, and go beyond trends to bring you fashion, style, decor, design, books, DIY, parties, and playthings. Our readers look to us to keep up with the best and most up-to-date concepts in the children’s market worldwide. We have an eye for quirk. We’re high-fashion, but we value whimsy over tradition. Playful childhood is more important to us than making kids into copycat adults. We believe life is beautiful, life is valuable, and life changes when you see it through the eyes of a child. We seek to transcend skin color, language and zip codes and bring out the real, wild, magical creativity inherent in every child. And behind Babiekins is an optimistic team of mothers-turned-editors, working from home, often with our own little babiekins climbing on, under and around the desks. We want to encourage you, and challenge you to see something different — something special — in yourself and in this world we all share. Welcome to Babiekins!
