Momkins // Fall Florals

By Brittany Williams, Former Fashion Editor 2 Comments

Fall florals are among some of my favorite prints. Moody and jewel tones scream cooler temps, changing seasons, pumpkin patches, and cornfields! The perfect dresses to take you into autumn are those in a maxi length, billowy, and with a great floral print in fall colored hues. This one from Free People is a good transition piece from summer, because it has pockets and long sleeves, but the material is nice and light.   I love the dark color with creamy blooms and pops of olive. Fall dresses are killer with booties and a felt hat, and this one in a camel brown hue reminds me of caramel corn, yummmm. Hello autumn, we are so happy you are here!

Momkins // Floral and Turquoise

By Brittany Williams, Former Fashion Editor Leave a Comment

A  floral shift dress and Turquoise jewelry (or anything Turqouise) is my favorite Summer uniform.  Turquoise reminds me of all the tropical vacations that I dream about daily, and a good floral frock is always a must.  Pick bold and oversized floral patterns with a dark background so the colors pop.  This will make your  dress have a more modern vibe, and be less “borrowed from my grandma’s closet”.   I love pairing shorter dresses with neutral suede or leather booties or sandals to keep it grounded and not too girly.   Or! Even better, forget the shoes and go barefoot and dance away with your babiekins on the sand at the beach!  Summer is here, horray!

Momkins // Hey Pretty Mama: Richelle Cote

By Brittany Williams, Former Fashion Editor Leave a Comment

I had the pleasure of meeting Richelle Cote, the woman behind “Neighborhood Collective”, back in March. Richelle and I became friends on social media long before, so I was thrilled when we were finally able to meet in person.  We played on the beach with our kids, and chatted away about all things fashion, motherhood, and marriage.  She is as real as they come, and empowers other women with her easy sense of motherhood and style.

Tell us about Neighborhood Collective and why you started it?

“Neighborhood Collective” is an host company for creative gatherings in the San Diego area.  As a mother, I felt something was missing.  I desired a real connection with women that shared the same passions as I did.  After sharing my feelings with a few close friends, I discovered this was a common desire among many women. There were others that wanted a time and place where they could connect and make relationships with those that shared their love of fashion, food and art.  This is where the idea of Neighborhood Collective stemmed. I wanted to create gatherings that could bring us all together. One creative meeting place to do what we all love! Talk, create, and be inspired by interesting individuals that share a common thread.

What is the first thing you do in the morning?

I’m woken up by one of my kiddos. With no time to “slowly wake-up”, I dash off to the kitchen to make them breakfast and start a pot of coffee. My mornings are usually spent on the couch in our sunroom or outside sipping my coffee topped with whipped cream and cinnamon while the kids play.

Define your personal style.

My style is eclectic and changes depending on my mood for the day.  I tend to be attracted to a more “boho loose fitting style” that is reminiscent of the 70s.  I enjoy band tees, distressed denim, kimonos, leather jackets, shift dresses, and fun items that add a unique look to any outfit.

What are the top three pieces in your closet you can’t live without?

Black distressed jeggings from American Eagle
HATS!!!!
Lace up Madewell sandals
Gap black leather boots
Birkenstocks
Black leather jacket

What inspires you?

I’m inspired by other women; social media has opened up a whole new world and it’s so fun. I LOVE following along and watching how other women create art, raise their children, spend their time, and embrace life.  Everyday I scroll the photos of women I follow from all around the world and I’m inspired. I get to witness different cultures right at my fingertips and it truly encourages me to look for the beauty in everything.  It can be hard at times because it makes me want more (whether it’s travel, fashion, art, home decor or cooking amazing meals) but honestly, it’s not a bad thing to have a flame lit beneath you to try new things and work toward goals.

Where is your favorite go-to-place to shop?

Urban Outfitters
Free People
Zara
Forever 21

How did becoming a mom change you?

Honestly, I don’t believe I have changed that much. I am blessed that I still can enjoy all the things I loved before having kids, only now I have to bring a lot more snacks along!  I’ve learned to have more patience and grace. I tell myself again and again “a messy house filled with kid’s toys is a loved house, and it doesn’t make you a messy person.”  I feel like I am always cleaning and doing laundry and some days it’s overwhelming.  I am working hard to embrace it, the days are moving fast and I know I am going to miss them. I’m blessed to have parents and in-laws close.  They help out with the kids and take them overnight so my hubby and I can still date and really concentrate on enjoying one another.  My husband is also great at encouraging me to schedule “me time.”  Usually this includes shopping, errands, coffee dates with girlfriends or Target outings (shopping alone is my love language).

Editors Note: I love How Richelle has the perfect eclectic balance in her style.  She adds a little feminine touch with fur and lace, but accents it with bohemian pieces and classic tailored cuts that can be seen in her denim and hats.  She is equal parts rad and graceful, and definitely a mama you want to know!

Being a mother is such a wonderful gift and a big, yet rewarding responsibility. This year Mother’s day is extra special for me because it is my very first one with my sweet son in my arms. Last year around this time I had just found out that I was pregnant; it’s wild how fast time flies. I wanted to wear something that was unique and beautiful to signify this special day. I was also looking for something that is easy to nurse in, flattering and eye catching and I think this beautiful maxi dress from Raga fit the bill perfectly! It is thin and flowy and has that ‘just throw it on and go but still look totally chic’ look which, lets face it, is every moms dream right?! I love the vintage feel of this easy-going gauzy dress; it gets an A+ in my book!

Happy Mother’s Day to all you mamas out there!

Something about warmer weather just brings out the inner hippie in me. I love the way flowy tops, wide legged jeans and giant round sunglasses just convey that easy, breezy summertime feeling. I believe that bell bottoms are universally flattering and these super flares in white denim is undeniably fresh and just right for summer! This boxy blouse is one of my favorite pieces currently with its retro cut collar and relaxed fit. Of course, the only shoes that seemed right for this outfit were my trusty vintage inspired clogs and to polish it all off, some giant round sunglasses. 1970s boho mama!

Momkins// One Plain White Tee, Three Ways

By Brittany Williams, Former Fashion Editor Leave a Comment

I love having essential pieces to wear that have endless versatility. The good ole’ plain white tee is one of those basics that everyone goes to time and time again.  I love a beautifully soft  and oversized fitting tee as the backbone for several outfits that have been on repeat lately.  Running errands all morning (sound familiar?) and it’s black and white for the win.  A flowy white tee, with worn in black denim and sneakers.  Next up,  a quick lunch date with the hubs, in between meetings for him and school pick-ups for me.  I go for silky printed shorts, that also double as “feel like I am still in pjs” comfort. Bonus!  Add in some lace-up sandals and a leather clutch to keep it polished, yet still casual.  Then comes  swimming lessons and pool play-time with the kids after school.  This tee can work as a great swimsuit coverup, which is perfect for endless Summer days in the near future!

I am totally digging these flared ankle jeans right now! This trend is so flattering and so easy to wear with anything. It takes your everyday jeans to the next level; somehow just bringing that hem up a few inches totally gives a simple staple a fresh look.  I love these jeans for all the shoe options you could go for; gladiator sandals peeking out, platform booties, ankle cowboy boots, the possibilities are endless! The ankle flare trend is a nod to the 70s but also keeps that modern Alexa Chung style we all love. I paired mine with a simple black tunic and some chunky ankle boots, a big hat and some boho jewelry. Lets hope this trend stays around for a while!

Momkins // Weekend Loungin’

By Brittany Williams, Former Fashion Editor Leave a Comment

I live for the weekends, as do most people.  For me, the perfect weekend is all about bed-head, comfy knits, and loungin’ with my loved ones at home.  I am a huge fan of printed bells from Novella Royale.  They are super comfy, while also being flattering and fashion forward.  Add a great over sized henley for layering and bare feet, and you have the perfect weekend wear in my book.  Now go on, lounge the day away, and dream of your next weekend without a care in the world.

We are more than a kids’ fashion magazine. We search everywhere for inspiration, and go beyond trends to bring you fashion, style, decor, design, books, DIY, parties, and playthings. Our readers look to us to keep up with the best and most up-to-date concepts in the children’s market worldwide. We have an eye for quirk. We’re high-fashion, but we value whimsy over tradition. Playful childhood is more important to us than making kids into copycat adults. We believe life is beautiful, life is valuable, and life changes when you see it through the eyes of a child. We seek to transcend skin color, language and zip codes and bring out the real, wild, magical creativity inherent in every child. And behind Babiekins is an optimistic team of mothers-turned-editors, working from home, often with our own little babiekins climbing on, under and around the desks. We want to encourage you, and challenge you to see something different — something special — in yourself and in this world we all share. Welcome to Babiekins!
