A Story To Twirl In

By Donna Tweedale, Former Contributor Leave a Comment

Every little girl loves a dress that passes the twirl test. It’s the first thing Edie will do the minute she’s in a skirt. Pull it out and twirl. Wrapped up in her own imagination.  Although, with this twirl there’s more to it. The story we have read together plays out all around her.

”Poppy is a natural explorer. From the time that she was born, there was not a moment when she was bored or didn’t know what to do. Poppy always had a plan. Poppy has a companion called Fred. After all, every good explorer needs a great companion don’t you think?”

Poppy and Fred’s adventures in London’s Kew Garden’s begins with them exploring where to get a great view of the city… to a Giraffe coming to their rescue. The characters and surrounding’s of the story live within the illustrated fabrics of the collection. Edie studies her dress and talks animatedly about Fred, The Giraffe, The Parrot’s, Polly… pointing them out on her dress to her friends and telling them all about what mischief Fred’s been up to.

Fashionkins // Pretty In Pink

Pink isn’t a colour that I would ordinarily gravitate to. I wouldn’t consider myself particularly ‘girly’; The pink pieces I have stumbled across for Edie have been too full on for me … Hot Pink’s caked in Glitter, Frill’s, Garish Character’s. I just can’t bring myself to do it.

From time to time we’ll find some pieces in pink, that don’t bring this Mumma out in hives; And we embrace them.

With Valentine’s just around the corner, we put our best feet forward in our Anna Pops shoes and took to Cambridge to share the love.

Featurekins // Anna Pops

Anna Pops’ adorable lookbook initially captured my attention through the power of Instagram. Immediately I was taken in by their stunning use of colours that highlights the detailing in their shoes beautifully.I got in touch with Anna Pops’ founder Tina to learn more….

Tell us how Anna Pops was born?

The concept is born from the desire to let our daughters (Fauve and Lois) shine and the Mom’s fascination for original shoes. our target is to present a collection of colourful, original and qualitative shoes. Environmental friendliness of the material and the craft manufacturing guarantee quality footwear. All our kids shoes are made in little factories in Italy, France, Spain and Portugal.

The colorways you use are stunning, these Gallucci boots are my firm favourite, would it be fair to say many of your styles are quite androgynous?, is this a conscious decision to make your shoes more gender neutral?

We were a little bit bored that boys only get brown, blue and green…why not choose a boys style with some charisma. Charisma you can find in the leather, the models and of course the colours. We search for pure and honest style. it’s true that we sell alot of our models to both boys and girls.

You share an insight into the Studio’s of Anna Pops through your website, it’s fascinating to see the journey your shoes make, how do you decide how to customise a style to reach the end product? Where do you find your inspiration?

Each collection is the result of an intensive search for specific colours and materials. We focus on this unique vision with designers and artisans in Belgium and abraod. We like Belgian kids brands like Morley, Simple Kids and American Outfitters,…and International brands such as Mini Rodini, Bonnet a Pompon and Bobo Choses. We are on the road a lot attending international fairs like Playtime in Paris to feel the materials and meet designers and producers. Where we met the owner of the brand English Biography. For the first time we have a shoe uniquely created for us.

That’s what make us proud.Cities like Paris or London but also Ghent and Antwerp are a source of inspiration… not only the fashion but also the use of colours in buildings, the way of presenting food at a bistro, or old books on a market triggers our mind.At home we let the world come to us with Pinterest and Instagram. Each season of a shoes collection is an intensive journey, with long nights and a lot of coffee…. but at the end we are proud when we see happy kids with our refined shoes.

What’s next for Anna Pops?

Making less compromises! Go for what we feel……and even more personalizing our shoes. Going for the Pops touch!

Copyright © 2022 · Babiekins Magazine | A Trendsetting Kids' Fashion Magazine and Online Community for Parents and Children Alike · Since the Southern California birth of Babiekins in 2010, the magazine has grown from into an internationally-recognized print publication with a global circulation and now a thriving online community. We are more than a kids’ fashion magazine. We search everywhere for inspiration, and go beyond trends to bring you fashion, style, decor, design, books, DIY, parties, and playthings. Our readers look to us to keep up with the best and most up-to-date concepts in the children’s market worldwide. We have an eye for quirk. We’re high-fashion, but we value whimsy over tradition. Playful childhood is more important to us than making kids into copycat adults. We believe life is beautiful, life is valuable, and life changes when you see it through the eyes of a child. We seek to transcend skin color, language and zip codes and bring out the real, wild, magical creativity inherent in every child. And behind Babiekins is an optimistic team of mothers-turned-editors, working from home, often with our own little babiekins climbing on, under and around the desks. We want to encourage you, and challenge you to see something different — something special — in yourself and in this world we all share. Welcome to Babiekins!
