Sleepykins// Kashton’s Eclectic Nursery

By Brittany Williams, Former Fashion Editor Leave a Comment

Kashton is my third, and final baby.  He is the youngest of three boys and I knew exactly what I wanted in his nursery.  Being a veteran mom, I know what works and what doesn’t. I also know the value of a mixing inexpensive and hand-me-down, with expensive pieces to make the room eclectic and functional.  I kept his room a neutral palate, and then let his books, plants, and little curios be the pops of color throughout.  We are big music and literature fans in our home, so I wanted to reflect that in his space.  My favorite piece of art is the one hanging above his change table with the lyrics from Bob Dylan’s “Forever Young”, one of my favorite songs.  I am an ocean girl, and I grew up spending the summers by the sea.  My husband on the other hand, is a mountain man.  He could snowboard everyday of his life, and live in a log cabin in the mountains if he could.  I wanted to portray both of these vastly different spectrums in his room, so Kashton has a reminder of the love his parents have for both land and sea.   The Pine Tree wall decals, and the water color shark jaw embody both perfectly, and are a fun mix.   All of his books are hand-me-downs or gifts, and they all have special meaning.  His Miffy books on his change table were mine as a baby, and the thrifted brass duck heads and thrifted brass lamp base all add a touch of eclectic whimsy. I’ve learned over the years to spend more on crib bedding, than on the crib itself.  I purchased a very inexpensive Ikea crib, but his sheets are a soft as butter and so snuggly.  Perfect for a full nights sleep (all mamas love that)!  His dresser and rocking horse have been in all three of my boys nursery.  The Rocking horse was my very first purchase for a nursery ever, when I found out I was pregnant with my first son.  I have no intentions of parting with it, like ever.   It has been such a joy rocking my baby boy in his room every night since birth, and I love the natural light that dances around the plants and the serenity I feel inside this space.

Copyright © 2021 · Babiekins Magazine | A Trendsetting Kids' Fashion Magazine and Online Community for Parents and Children Alike · Since the Southern California birth of Babiekins in 2010, the magazine has grown from into an internationally-recognized print publication with a global circulation and now a thriving online community. We are more than a kids’ fashion magazine. We search everywhere for inspiration, and go beyond trends to bring you fashion, style, decor, design, books, DIY, parties, and playthings. Our readers look to us to keep up with the best and most up-to-date concepts in the children’s market worldwide. We have an eye for quirk. We’re high-fashion, but we value whimsy over tradition. Playful childhood is more important to us than making kids into copycat adults. We believe life is beautiful, life is valuable, and life changes when you see it through the eyes of a child. We seek to transcend skin color, language and zip codes and bring out the real, wild, magical creativity inherent in every child. And behind Babiekins is an optimistic team of mothers-turned-editors, working from home, often with our own little babiekins climbing on, under and around the desks. We want to encourage you, and challenge you to see something different — something special — in yourself and in this world we all share. Welcome to Babiekins!
