We are nearly half way through the school year and my daughter’s lunch box seemed to have seen better days! I always dread shopping for lunch boxes. We have been through many styles, shapes and most of them did not last long or were totally unpractical once taken for a spin. I have done a bit of window/virtual shopping and I just cant believe how times have changed since my daughter was a baby. There are new bottles

and boxes/lunch boxes
and don’t let me start on children’s menus. Thinking up delicious bites that your kids will actually eat (as opposed to leave/give away/throw in the nearest bin) can rapidly become a chore. So this week’s column is not only about how to find a lunch box that will suit your needs but also on what to fill it with without running out of ideas by the week 2.
Out of everything I have seen on my ‘virtual’ shopping spree, here at Laptop Lunches they have everything to change your boring usual you into lunch box queen. They sell bento boxes but the best part is their 365 lunch ideas. Say good bye to old tired-looking sandwich, here are just few Spring recipes:
At last, but not least you need to inject some fun into your packed lunches and this lady just know how to do it, check out her blog where she has lots fun ideas for you to try out.
Still, if you find the previous ideas time consuming simple notes left in your child’s lunch box will make the little and not so little ones also happy. Try simple ‘I love you’ written with a pen on the banana’s skin, or try these cute notes created by lovely Emily at Jones design Company.
Don’t forget that what you pack is open to scrutiny – not just by other kids but by other mums. So if your child is going to a friend’s house after school, make sure that’s not the day you give in to Fruit Shoots and Monster Munch crisps. Stick a few stray aduki beans or seaweed sachets in the lunchbox. Your child will be tad confused but your position as Alpha Mother will be assured for ever more!
Happy Munching!
