Handmade Barbie

By Priscila Barros, Editor-in-Chief 2 Comments

hadley asked santa for a barbie house this christmas.

but i didn’t want to buy her the three-story dream townhouse [though it would have made the weeks’ before christmas alot easier!].

i really wanted to build her dollhouse instead.

there is so much inspiration online – sweet juniper’s mies van der rohe dollhouse + joel henriques’ modern dollhouse.

the simple 3.5 level house was drafted in sketchup.

i was fortunate to have the help of a good friend + use of a local highschool wood shop to complete the project.

as a girl i loved the handmade clothes were the best!  lovely prints + lots of tulle.

i use my liberty of london remnants + vintage patterns to create the dolls’ wardrobe.  vintage shoes from ebay.  vintage wooden wardrobe from etsy.

the house has two stereos!  the vintage stereopet works but has no records [a future project].

the other is a radio/mp3 player.  we loaded it up with her favourite tunes + it’s a party!

beauty salon + bathroom.  the porcelain sink + toilet were a lucky find!  vintage hair dryer + rollers from etsy.

the house is a work in progress –  walls to be painted + rooms to be decorated [check out the thrifted galaxy wallpaper.  so cool.], linens + wardrobes to be sewn.  hadley has big plans.

the best thing?  christmas morning + hadley was over the moon.  santa brought her a dollhouse that was “taller than me”!

I am interested in the Stereopet. I have an old one with records. A need to be sure that yours works. I have discs for them. How much to you want for it.
Oh, and when you lift the lid, is it green inside, and underneath it say “Peter Austin MFG, CO.” Made in Japan.? I just need to know to make sure it’s the same as mine to accomodate the records.
Please get back to me as soon as possible.
    My phone # is 205-763-8493
    Sincerely, Lucie Guillemette.

Copyright © 2021 · Babiekins Magazine | A Trendsetting Kids' Fashion Magazine and Online Community for Parents and Children Alike · Since the Southern California birth of Babiekins in 2010, the magazine has grown from into an internationally-recognized print publication with a global circulation and now a thriving online community. We are more than a kids’ fashion magazine. We search everywhere for inspiration, and go beyond trends to bring you fashion, style, decor, design, books, DIY, parties, and playthings. Our readers look to us to keep up with the best and most up-to-date concepts in the children’s market worldwide. We have an eye for quirk. We’re high-fashion, but we value whimsy over tradition. Playful childhood is more important to us than making kids into copycat adults. We believe life is beautiful, life is valuable, and life changes when you see it through the eyes of a child. We seek to transcend skin color, language and zip codes and bring out the real, wild, magical creativity inherent in every child. And behind Babiekins is an optimistic team of mothers-turned-editors, working from home, often with our own little babiekins climbing on, under and around the desks. We want to encourage you, and challenge you to see something different — something special — in yourself and in this world we all share. Welcome to Babiekins!
