Partykins // 9Months Non-Alchoholic Sparkling Bubbly

Babiekins Magazine | 9Months Bubbly

With the holidays come an array of parties and celebrations and what woman doesn’t want to be a part of that? But when you have a baby in tow it’s easy to feel left out when the room is filled with clinking glasses and loud celebrating cheers. Carrie Marvin, mother and founder of 9 Months, didn’t let that stop her from enjoying the celebrations. She is the inspiration behind 9Months, a non-alcoholic sparkling blend designed just for the mothers-to-be who want to raise a glass and partake in the toast.

Carrie, you created 9 Months non-alcoholic sparkling bubbly a couple years ago so you and other woman in similar situations wouldn’t feel left out of the party scene. Can you elaborate a bit on how you came up with the idea?
I’ve had an entrepreneurial mind since I was very little. I was (and still am today) coming up with ideas and brainstorms on how to make life a little more enjoyable. When I came up with the 9Months concept, I was at the age where myself and everyone around me was pregnant and I saw an opportunity to provide expecting mommies with a festive and safe beverage for social events! 9Months also celebrates pregnant women – because we certainly deserve it!

I would imagine the tastings would be the best part of the job! How involved are you with the process of making your non-alcoholic sparkling bubbly?
The tastings were absolutely the best part of coming up with my sparkling bubbly. I first tried to find a winery domestically to carry out my idea, but I didn’t find one that I felt understood my vision. That’s when I looked at international options, and was so happy I did because not only did I find a winery in Southern Australia that was excited about the idea, but, the product they made surpassed all my expectations of how I wanted 9Months to taste. The winery sent me samples and we decided on two flavors to start with: a dark sparkling that is made with a blend of red grapes and a Golden Muscatel Grape that makes up our white blend. Both are sweet, delicious and very refreshing!

When you purchase a bottle of 9Months a percentage of the sales goes directly to the March of Dimes, a charity near and dear to your heart. Do you feel this sense of “giving back” is an underlining motto for your company?
Giving back and donating a portion of each sale to March of Dimes is one of the most important parts of my company. I couldn’t be more excited to donate to such an inspiring and important charity. The idea for 9 Months came to me while I was pregnant in 2012 with my first daughter. I was living in NYC, going to events and parties but feeling so left out of the cheers and toasts or specialness of having a celebratory beverage. I knew I had to do something to make other pregnant women feel included. Then, when I lost my daughter at 39 weeks, I knew I wanted to incorporate the “giving back” element to my brand. I was devastated and angry by our loss and was very close to giving up on the 9Months concept, but, instead of giving up, I thought to give back. Providing resources to a cause dedicated to healthy pregnancies is near and dear to my heart.

We can’t imagine what you went through and our thoughts and prayers go out to you and every woman who faces a similar situation. You are now in a position where you balance motherhood and a career with a new blossoming company. Do you ever feel challenged by this lifestyle?
Balancing motherhood and a growing business has been one of the hardest juggling acts I could have imagined, but, I know myself and for me, being busy is how I am happiest. I find I’m my best when I have a full plate! It forces me to focus on the most important things first and then prioritize appropriately to achieve everything. Of course, that all can blow up in my face when my little one needs me, as I drop everything in a heartbeat for her! But, all in all, I love it. I wake up excited to see what the day will bring me.

Now let’s talk about these sparkling wines! Do you prefer red or white?
That’s always such a hard question for me! I really do like them both, BUT, if I must choose a favorite, I do like the white just a tiny bit more. It resembles the taste of champagne, which I missed terribly while pregnant!

What are the distinct flavors of the sparkling bubbly?
The red sparkling has a very natural and crisp taste with a light finish. The white is also very light and refreshing with a beautiful aroma that adds to the flavor. Both are unique and, in my opinion, do not resemble anything you would buy in a grocery store.

What are some great scenarios where you think a bottle of 9 Months would be a perfect drink to offer guests?
Everywhere! The opportunities are really similar to any social or celebratory gathering, ranging from a party to a wedding or a backyard bbq! It’s also an amazing gift for baby showers, gender reveal parties or simply for your co-worker or friend who recently announced their pregnancy!

Tell us about the future of 9 Months. Do you plan to add to your portfolio of non-alcoholic sparkling bubbly any time soon?
The future of 9Months is bubbly and bright! We are looking to include a new flavor by spring so be on the lookout!

Modern Clara Editor’s Picks

By Liz Jacob, Copy Editor Leave a Comment

The modern Clara is quietly swept away into a magical land filled with tiny toy soldiers, scampering mice, powerful kings and dancers from exotic lands. The Land of Sweets emerged into the evening and became a reality she hoped would last forever. This modern Clara traded in her nightgown and wool blanket for a tulle tutu and glistening glitter cape. She swept her hair up with pom-pom clips and tip-toed around her prince with golden angel wings. And when the clock struck midnight, The Land of Sweets slowly faded into the soft glow of the lights and modern Clara said her goodbyes as she walked off in the distance.

With winter right around the corner, we couldn’t help but get inspired by the magic of the season. We turned to whites and silvers for this seasonal celebration fit for a winter queen. By combining a few party accessories with items from around the house, you’ll be able to throw together a winter scene in no time.

Create your very own fringe tassel garland out of tissue paper and add several balloons for a whimsical feel. I decided to forgo the traditional gift bags and set out a candy station that also served as the center piece for the table. Crystal rock candies, white M & M’s and peppermint sticks are the perfect fit for a cool treat! And of course, we can’t forget the vanilla bean cake and chocolate cupcakes smothered in glittery white buttercream icing- reminiscint of freshly fallen snow.

And the most important accessory? Why the queen’s attire, of course! The Daisy Chain Tutu Dress from Tutu Du Monde adds just the right amount of contrast to the hints of white and silver. And if you experience a frosty day, simply add a faux fur vest and wool tights.

This winter themed party is bound to make any little girl feel like a winter queen.

For the the bow
Cut a rectangle piece of craft felt. At the center, fold and with the help of the pipe cleaner, join & make a knot.

Then, on both extremities sew the 2 rectangles. Finally take the long strap and slide it into the 2 rectangles (at the extremities) and make 2 knots.

Featurekins // In the City with Welkin

Babiekins Magazine | Welkin Interview

Babiekins Magazine | Welkin Interview

Babiekins Magazine | Welkin Interview

Babiekins Magazine | Welkin Interview

We can all only hope to look as cool as the city kids sporting the latest pieces from Welkin NYC, a New York-based and inspired brand co-created by Belle Savransky and LaTonya Staubs. Both are bloggers and moms of two who possess the most infectious love for New York City that not only is evident in their creations, but in how they live their lives. The Welkin brand is made “by the city, for the city,” and will launch a third and extensive collection this fall. With statement tees and onesies, skirts and turbans with a vintage flare, and urban-inspired heirloom pieces, Welkin is the essence of what it is to be a child in the city.

What is the Welkin NYC story?

BS: We’re not so much interested in telling a story as in conveying the “live and let and live” feeling that leads our lives here in NYC. We want to present an uninhibited freedom of expression in our children’s clothes, and to really foster a pride in being children of the city. It’s a very multidimensional message, which shows itself in our simple yet direct designs.

That’s a big message and undertaking. Is that what sets Welkin apart from other lines?

BS: I don’t think anything makes us more or less special than any other kids clothing brand in the market, working every day to make their dream succeed. Our message isn’t for everyone and we’re not going to try to convince everyone that they need to wear Welkin. If it speaks to you, it speaks to you. If it embodies what you want in your children’s wardrobe, then so be it.

Speaking of messaging, you’re really becoming known for your tees and onesies.

BS: We try to incorporate into our designs nods to the many cultural and arts movements of NYC that we are inspired by. It’s pretty clear what inspired the designs on our first collection of shirts: each shirt acknowledges the NYC-based artist who first coined the quote—except our DOPE tee, and that one continues to be the most controversial. Our clothes aren’t for everyone. We make clothes that reflect our experience as mothers of city children. Sometimes there’s some humor and sass and controversy thrown in there, and that’s just how we like it. The DOPE tee is about a child claiming his or her individuality—that’s the message. And I love all the positive feedback we’ve gotten from that one.

LS: And every product has a story behind it. Some of the words on our shirts and totes are from famous songs and movements in history; other pieces signify certain parts of our lives that we want to tie into our brand.

You have some beautiful, unique pieces. If you could choose an adult-sized item, which would it be?

LS: I definitely have a deep love for The Luna Suit in our current collection; but I’m probably a tad more in love with The Moon Jumper. It’s quirky, it’s out there, and you’ve got to be brave to wear it and rock it. I want one in an adult size for sure.

BS: I think the Subway-Riding Pants were and still are my favorite piece. Their versatility, as well as their unisex appeal, is something that I rarely see in children’s brands. My son now wears the same pair that I made for my daughter last year. They’re fantastic and durable and I’d love to have them in my size. And my husband’s. Obviously we could not all four wear them at the same time—or could we?!

The summer line is moving off the racks—and it’s available in a few new locations.

LS: Our summer capsule collection was shipped our to wholesalers, and is virtually sold out, which is exciting for us! For this collection in particular we chose to allow pre-orders, as well as sell in shops. It’s been a great experience, and we’ve built some lasting friendships. Currently you can find our pieces at the super hip Babesta, located in Tribeca NYC. You can also find our pieces online at Darling Clementine Shop and California Kids.

Your fall collection is set to be extensive. How is it going and what can we expect to see from future Welkin?

BS: We’re right in the middle of producing the fall line. We are a very hands-on company, and oversee all grading, cutting, sewing, and printing in person, which gives us a great grasp on quality control within our company. One of the perks of manufacturing and printing here in NYC is being able to really be a part of the process, and we take full advantage of that. We’re getting more creative with our designs this time around and using some new colors. We are really proud of the new pieces. To be honest, we take our designs really seriously and just want to keep producing small runs of quality designs, printed locally, made ethically and sustainably, and which speak to our hearts. We want to keep creating, and keep doing it right, and we know everything will grow organically if we stick to our vision.

View all of the Welkin NYC collections and shop the summer capsule.

Copyright © 2023 · Babiekins Magazine | A Trendsetting Kids' Fashion Magazine and Online Community for Parents and Children Alike · Since the Southern California birth of Babiekins in 2010, the magazine has grown from into an internationally-recognized print publication with a global circulation and now a thriving online community. We are more than a kids’ fashion magazine. We search everywhere for inspiration, and go beyond trends to bring you fashion, style, decor, design, books, DIY, parties, and playthings. Our readers look to us to keep up with the best and most up-to-date concepts in the children’s market worldwide. We have an eye for quirk. We’re high-fashion, but we value whimsy over tradition. Playful childhood is more important to us than making kids into copycat adults. We believe life is beautiful, life is valuable, and life changes when you see it through the eyes of a child. We seek to transcend skin color, language and zip codes and bring out the real, wild, magical creativity inherent in every child. And behind Babiekins is an optimistic team of mothers-turned-editors, working from home, often with our own little babiekins climbing on, under and around the desks. We want to encourage you, and challenge you to see something different — something special — in yourself and in this world we all share. Welcome to Babiekins!
