Motherhood, oh motherhood! You are the most glorious, messy and beautiful ride we get to endure as a mother, full of ups and downs.

As a way to celebrate motherhood, Samantha Hahn; a mother of two and a very sensible artist based in Brooklyn, most known for her signature watercolors, she captured a stunning collection of hand-lettered quotes and ethereal illustrations to create her book: Mother is a story.

This book is really close to my heart, not just because it is precious and captures the profound journey of motherhood in such a magical way, but also because I had the honor of having one of my pictures turned into watercolor and printed on its page.

“It takes someone brave to be a mother, someone strong to raise a child, and someone special to love someone more than herself.”

Happy Mother´s day to all of you brave, strong and special women!

Fashionkins // Splashes of Spring

By Carina de Luca, Former Contributor Leave a Comment

I am already totally immersed into Spring vibes. Got the entire house covered with fresh blooms and my beloved greens and our wardrobe is filled with splash of colors just waiting for the weather to sync in with our vibes. As we are still having pretty cold days and snow, I need to get creative to find fun activities for the kids. As fresh green cuts are so trendy right now I thought: why not making it extra cheerful with some paint? We used finger paint and let our imagination fly. Lola had so much fun and she was super proud of her art work. After she was done with painting, I let it air dry and put it back in a vase with water. You won´t believe it, but I shot this two weeks ago and I still have it on my kitchen. Whenever I look at it, it always makes me smile plus it gives me that warm happy feeling that Spring is just around the corner.

Fashionkins //Quirky Disney Inspired Costumes

By Carina de Luca, Former Contributor Leave a Comment

This year, we gave Lola the Disney classics DVD box collection and she´s quite obsessed with it. So when I started to plan what she was going to be for halloween, I knew it had to be something related to her favourite movies. I always try to look at what I´ve got at home and start to work from there, adding few touches to their actual outfits and turning them into a costumes. You don´t really need much more than that. Just let your creativity flow a bit and you´ll have a fun and unique costume!

For Bambi, any brown outfit will work. I added a few spots using woollen paper and the main thing is the makeup. You can find lots of inspiration on Pinterest. For Thumper, I used a grey jumpsuit, off white leg warmers, a faux fur cape to add some fluffiness and I hand sewn the ears that I´ve bought on the dollar store to his little bonnet.

For Pinocchio, the main thing is to get a pair of red pants and suspenders. I made this giant blue bow, added the yellow buttons and put a little red feather in her bonnet. For Jimini Cricket you don´t need much more than some green pants and a top hat. I did it using a plastic party hat as a base and covered it with blue woollen paper and added the yellowish bow. Voilá, there you have four Disney inspired halloween costumes. Very simple and equally adorable!

If you saw my last post, you might already know that twinning is a big hit in our family. This time, I decided to take it to the next level and match outfits with my mini! I think it’s super cute and she feels extra special whenever she gets to dress like mommy. If you don’t know yet what you are going to be wearing for mother’s day, think about matching or color coordinating outfits with your kids. I can guarantee you some very cute pictures and lots of sparkle in their eyes!

Fashionkins // Twinning in Lightning Bolts and Wild Zebras

By Carina de Luca, Former Contributor Leave a Comment

My mom used to dress my older sister and I in matching outfits. To tell you the truth, we were not big fans of it but now, being a mom, it’s my turn to make some twinning magic happen and I will take full advantage of it while I can, because twinning is winning!

Copyright © 2019 · Babiekins Magazine | A Trendsetting Kids' Fashion Magazine and Online Community for Parents and Children Alike · Since the Southern California birth of Babiekins in 2010, the magazine has grown from into an internationally-recognized print publication with a global circulation and now a thriving online community. We are more than a kids’ fashion magazine. We search everywhere for inspiration, and go beyond trends to bring you fashion, style, decor, design, books, DIY, parties, and playthings. Our readers look to us to keep up with the best and most up-to-date concepts in the children’s market worldwide. We have an eye for quirk. We’re high-fashion, but we value whimsy over tradition. Playful childhood is more important to us than making kids into copycat adults. We believe life is beautiful, life is valuable, and life changes when you see it through the eyes of a child. We seek to transcend skin color, language and zip codes and bring out the real, wild, magical creativity inherent in every child. And behind Babiekins is an optimistic team of mothers-turned-editors, working from home, often with our own little babiekins climbing on, under and around the desks. We want to encourage you, and challenge you to see something different — something special — in yourself and in this world we all share. Welcome to Babiekins!
